Colts coach Chuck Pagano admitted Monday that Frank Gore is "beat to crap."
Gore ranks fifth in the NFL in touches, but his effectiveness has waned over the course of his age-32 season. He was seen limping badly on the sideline late in the Colts' Week 11 win over the Falcons, then managed 24 yards on 19 carries in Indy's Week 12 win over the Buccaneers. Gore will be tough to trust as more than a flex option this week against Pittsburgh's stout run defense.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano described ILB Jerrell Freeman as "week to week" with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.
It's a concern for Indy's run defense, which has largely sputtered even with Freeman in the lineup over the last two months. Among 3-4 inside linebackers, Pro Football Focus has awarded only Luke Kuechly a higher run-stopping grade than Freeman this season. The Colts face DeAngelo Williams this week.
The Cardinals' website considers rookie David Johnson the team's "likely" Week 13 starter at running back against St. Louis.
Chris Johnson is dealing with a bone bruise on his left knee, while Andre Ellington is nursing a case of turf toe. "I have all the confidence in the world in him starting," coach Bruce Arians said of David Johnson on Monday. A third-round rookie out of East Carolina, Johnson has averaged 4.0 yards per carry this season, but has scored eight all-purpose touchdowns, four on the ground, three as a receiver, and one on a kickoff return. He'll be a plug-and-play fantasy RB2 against the Rams.
Golden Tate (calf) was limited in Lions practice on Monday.
The calf injury isn't a concern for Tate's Week 13 availability. With Eric Ebron fading, Tate has drawn target totals of 8 and 11 the past two weeks.
Calvin Johnson (ankle) was limited in Lions practice Monday.
Listed as questionable for Thanksgiving, Megatron proceeded to paste the Eagles for 93 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson has a highly productive track record against the Packers, whom the Lions will play on Thursday night.
Eagles signed C Barrett Jones off the Bears' practice squad.
Once a folk hero of #RamsTwitter -- yes, such a thing exists -- Jones was a low-level prospect coming out of Alabama despite many college accolades, and has earned 23 career snaps as a third-year pro. He takes the roster spot of G/C Julian Vandervelde, who was waived in a corresponding move.
Jets coach Todd Bowles said Monday that Darrelle Revis has made "slight progress," but remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.
The Jets will have a very hard time slowing down Odell Beckham if Revis can't play against the Giants. This is an injury situation to monitor all week.
Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) is day to day with an AC joint sprain.
The PPR RB3/4 played through the issue in Sunday's win over the Giants. He should be fine for Week 13.
