Carlos Corporan (thumb) has been pulled off his rehab assignment.

Corporan is still feeling soreness in his sprained left thumb and there's no timetable for when he'll resume the assignment. With Robinson Chirinos (shoulder) having gone on the disabled list over the weekend, that means the Rangers will be going with Chris Gimenez and Bobby Wilson at catcher for a while.

David Wright (back) is hoping to begin a rehab assignment early next week.

Wright took a full round of batting practice on Tuesday and also did other activities, as he'll be put through strenuous workouts for five straight days. If he gets through that with no setbacks, he'll be cleared to play in games. "At this point, I just want to get in the lineup," Wright said. "I want to be part of the fun." Wright has been limited to just eight games this season due to spinal stenosis.

Mookie Betts worked out Sunday and Monday and didn't experience any concussion-related symptoms.

"He had a good day Sunday," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Another good day [Monday] with the increase of physical activity. There's no reproducing of the concussion symptoms right now." Betts will travel with the Red Sox to Detroit this weekend, so it sounds like he could be activated later this week.

Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) is expected to resume baseball activities this weekend.

The Red Sox are bringing Pedroia along more slowly this time after rushing him back from his right hamstring injury the first time. He could still be a couple weeks away from a return.

Jordan Walden (biceps) has been recalled from his rehab assignment.

Walden's return date had already been pushed back once, with the Cardinals saying he just needed to build up more strength. Now he's been shut down and his timetable is totally up in the air. "One step forward," manager Mike Matheny said. "Two steps back." The Cards acquired Steve Cishek and Jonathan Broxton at the trade deadline, no doubt in part because they knew they couldn't count on Walden. He's been out since late April with a biceps strain.
Aug 4 - 8:13 PM

Rangers released LHP Wandy Rodriguez.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign elsewhere. Rodriguez faded after a hot start with Texas, ultimately holding a 4.90 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 86 1/3 innings. Still, he shouldn't have a problem catching on with a club looking for some depth.
Aug 4 - 8:10 PM

Josh Reddick (back) was a late scratch from the Athletics' lineup Tuesday.

Reddick had been slated to return to action after sitting out Monday with lower back soreness, but apparently he's not quite ready yet. Mark Canha replaced him in right field.
Aug 4 - 8:08 PM

David Freese (finger) said Tuesday that he could return to the Angels' lineup by next week.

He'll have missed three weeks at that point with a non-displaced fracture in his right index finger. Conor Gillaspie has filled in nicely for Freese at third base, batting .286/.310/.536 with a homer and six RBI over seven contests.
