Tyler Skaggs (elbow) is scheduled to begin throwing off a mound on July 1.

Skaggs has been playing catch for a while, although he's currently in the midst of a planned week off in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The left-hander won't return before the end of this season but could pitch in the Arizona Fall League.

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) has yet to resume running the bases.

Puig did some running in the outfield two days in a row over the weekend, but he's evidently not yet been cleared to run the bases yet and won't begin a rehab assignment until that happens. It had been looking like Puig had a good shot to return on May 10 when first eligible, but that's looking less likely now.

Justin Verlander (triceps) indicated via social media on Wednesday that he's been cleared to resume a throwing program.

The right-hander's tweet, which came along with a stoplight set on green, read: "Green means go!!! Gas pedals on the right!" It sure sounds like he's been given the go-ahead to resume throwing following another MRI on Tuesday, but we'll know for sure when the Tigers provide an update on Verlander later Wednesday.

Luke Hochevar (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list this weekend.

Hochevar's 30-day rehab window is nearly up. He's posted a 7.84 ERA during his rehab assignment, although that's mostly the result of one poor outing when he allowed seven runs in 1.2 innings. The Royals are expected to bring Hochevar along slowly with some low-leverage innings initially.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) "is said to be feeling better" and hopes to return to the lineup "in a couple days."

Ramirez avoided a serious left shoulder injury when he slammed into a side wall on Monday and has made nice progress since then. The Red Sox will obviously be careful with him, but it sounds like there's a chance he could return to action before the end of the week. Ramirez is batting .283/.340/.609 with 10 home runs this season.

Astros pitching prospect Vince Velasquez (lat) has been pitching in extended spring training games.

Velasquez is expected to be assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi soon after getting a late start to the season because of a strained right lat. The 22-year-old is ranked by Baseball America as the club's No. 4 prospect.

The Tigers had Bruce Rondon (biceps) examined after the reliever felt soreness during a live batting practice session last week.

The good news is that the exam didn't show anything new with Rondon's ailing biceps. Rondon has returned to Detroit to continue his rehab and will resume throwing on Friday. "We sent out his diagnostics to be reviewed, which came back with exactly the same diagnosis we've had," athletic trainer Kevin Rand said. "We're bringing him back to Detroit to kind of get him underneath our group." Rondon should begin a rehab assignment before long if he can avoid any more setbacks.

Michael Morse is not in the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.

He's now been benched for three straight games and four out of the last five contests. Morse isn't injured, but he's hitting just .193/.253/.284 and Justin Bour has seven hits in 14 at-bats since his promotion. Bour is at first base again on Wednesday.
