Luke Kuechly (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 14 against the Chargers.

It is a surprise after Kuechly got in a full practice Friday, but it appears as if he did not pass the final test with an independent neurologist. He remains week to week. S Kurt Coleman and CB Daryl Worley were able to clear the protocol and will play against the Chargers.

Justin Forsett said 99 percent of the Broncos' offense is the same as the system he ran under Gary Kubiak in Baltimore.

"You gotta be patient with decisive decision-making," Forsett said. "I love it because it gives you a lot of options and freedom that some of the other schemes don’t allow you to have." The familiarity should allow Forsett to take on a big role right out of the gate, with Kubiak expecting him to "split" work with Devontae Booker this week against the Titans. Forsett cannot be trusted in the starting lineup in his first game with Denver, but he needs to be added in all leagues.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien called Jonathan Grimes a "situational player."

Grimes averaged a healthy 8.6 yards on five carries last week against the Packers with most of those runs converting long third downs, but it does not look like he is headed for a bigger workload. "If there's a bunch of situational plays in the game, he's going to come up big for us," O'Brien said. "He's come up big for us on third down. He does certain things on first and second down, two-minute drill. I mean the guy does a little bit of everything for us and that's a guy that is very valuable to a pro football team." Grimes is not going to get enough work to become fantasy relevant, but his healthy return seems to have knocked Akeem Hunt out of the rotation.

Bears OC Dowell Loggains praised rookie Jordan Howard's "vision" and "feet."

"For a big back, he’s got some quickness. He gets through the hole quickly, especially when we block it up the right way," Loggains said. "I think he has really good vision and I think he has really good feet for a big back." This has been a lost season for the Bears, but the emergence of Howard is one of the most promising developments. Barring any injuries, Howard should enter 2017 as the clear lead back in a hopefully improved offense.

Texans CB Johnathan Joseph (ribs, questionable) said "pain toleration" will determine if he can play Week 14 against the Colts.

Joseph did not practice all week, but coach Bill O'Brien said there is a "remote possibility" he will be able to play. Joseph plans to "give it a shot" in pregame warmups, but it seems unlikely he suits up. Kareem Jackson will likely get the start if Joseph sits.

Bucs DE William Gholston (ankle) was not on the final injury report.

Gholston reportedly was in a boot and on crutches after last week's game because of a sprained ankle, but he has apparently made a miraculous recovery. He will be good to go against the Saints.

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Julio Jones will be "a decoy at best" Week 14 against the Rams.

Ledbetter is doubling down on his Friday report that Jones will not play. Coach Dan Quinn said Friday he "anticipates" Jones will be active, but Ledbetter says he is "calling coach's bluff." Playing in an afternoon kick and potentially limited to decoy status, Jones looks way too risky to trust in the first week of the fantasy playoffs. Owners should find other options.

Giants activated Shane Vereen (triceps) off injured reserve.

The transaction is not yet official, but it is expected to come "barring anything unforeseen" during Saturday's practice. Vereen is also expected to be active Sunday night against the Cowboys, but his role is questionable in an already jumbled backfield. Vereen is a fine stash in PPR leagues, but he is too risky to trust in the first week of the playoffs. Vereen's presence makes Rashad Jennings an even lower floor RB3.
