Athletics optioned LHP Daniel Coulombe to Triple-A Nashville.

Coulombe holds a 5.79 ERA across nine relief appearances with the A's this season. Oakland has added a couple fresh arms to their bullpen.

Jason Vargas (hand) will make his next rehab start at Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

He had been slated to start Sunday but will be pushed back a day. Vargas could conceivably be added to the Mets' rotation late next week after Monday's start, but the Mets haven't committed to anything yet.

Rockies activated RHP Jeff Hoffman from the 10-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Hoffman has been out since early March with right shoulder inflammation but has already made three rehab starts. He'll be under consideration for a promotion when the Rockies need a starter.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said Friday that Byron Buxton (migraines) has shown "slight improvement."

The club hopes that Buxton will be ready for some light non-baseball activities at the ballpark soon. The young outfielder is eligible for activation on April 25 but it seems like he might need a little more time than that.
Apr 20 - 4:37 PM

Jason Hammel had to settle for a no-decision after allowing just two runs over nine innings in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Tigers.

Hammel averaged less than 175 innings over the last three seasons even though he averaged 31 starts, which gives you an idea how rarely he pitches deep into games. He was rolling in this one, however, giving up just five hits and two walks with four strikeouts, as he threw just 101 pitches. The Royals couldn't get much done against Michael Fulmer and the Tigers' bullpen, though. Hammel will take a 3.20 ERA into next week's start versus the White Sox.
Apr 20 - 4:31 PM

Orioles recalled LHP Tanner Scott from Triple-A Norfolk.

Scott allowed one run over 1 2/3 innings in a relief appearance earlier this month. The hard thrower will provide length in the bullpen.
Apr 20 - 4:23 PM

Orioles optioned INF Engelb Vielma to Triple-A Norfolk.

Vielma was up for over a week but made just one start. The O's are replacing him with reliever Tanner Scott.

Tommy Pham (groin) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

Pham didn't start Thursday after suffering a minor right groin injury Tuesday, but he did appear as a pinch-hitter and is back in there Friday. He's in center field and batting leadoff against Brandon Finnegan and the Reds.
