Andrelton Simmons went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Wednesday as the Angels edged the Dodgers 3-2.

The Angels won the game in the bottom of the ninth after Ben Revere reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a wild pitch/strikeout in which Yasmani Grandal's throw to first sailed into right field. That's how one might expect a 27-52 team to lose, not a 52-27 team like the Dodgers, but you just never know with baseball. Simmons' homer off Ryu would have been the decisive blow tonight if Grandal hadn't homered with two outs and two strikes in the top of the ninth to tie the game. It was Simmons' eighth homer in 81 games this year. That matches his total in 271 games from 2015 and 2016.

Alex Meyer pitched around five walks to shut out the Dodgers for six innings Wednesday.

Meyer got a visit from the trainer at the beginning of the fourth, but he was allowed to continue. He gave up just one hit on the night, illustrating what he might be capable of as he does a better job of harnessing his stuff. Still, with 37 walks in 55 1/3 innings this year, he's not a mixed-league option.

Cam Bedrosian was given his first save chance Wednesday since coming off the DL, but he blew it after giving up a game-tying homer with two outs and two strikes.

Yasmani Grandal hit the homer, the first allowed by Bedrosian in 12 innings this year and just the second in 52 1/3 innings since the beginning of last year. Bedrosian remains worth owning in mixed leagues, but he's probably going to resume setting up with Bud Norris potentially returning this weekend.

Hyun-Jin Ryu fanned eight while allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings Wednesday versus the Angels.

Ryu took a shot from Andrelton Simmons off his foot, but he was able to stay in the game tonight and put together another solid showing. He's allowed exactly two runs in three straight starts, though he didn't complete six innings in any of those. He should be a nice play in mixed leagues with scheduled home outings against the Diamondbacks and Royals next week.
Jun 29 - 1:39 AM

Trayce Thompson homered Wednesday for his first hit in the majors this season.

Thompson had been 0-for-13 before taking Keynan Middleton deep in the eighth inning tonight. He's probably not going to be up for long, but he should start versus lefties until he's sent back down.
Jun 29 - 1:35 AM

Manuel Margot went 2-for-4 with a walk, two steals and three runs scored as the Padres topped the Braves 7-4 on Wednesday.

Margot was just 1-for-3 stealing bases in 20 games in May before landing on the DL because of a strained calf, so the two steals tonight were an encouraging sign. He has a ways to go before he'll be recommended in shallow mixed leagues.
Jun 29 - 1:32 AM

Luis Perdomo won despite allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings Wednesday versus the Braves.

He had a shutout going until the sixth, when he gave up four singles and walked before exiting. Just two runs were in at that point, but Phil Maton allowed two inherited runners to score before finishing the inning. Perdomo has prevailed in three of his last four starts after going winless in his first 10.
Jun 29 - 1:30 AM

Bartolo Colon was pounded for six runs in four innings by the Padres in his return to the rotation on Wednesday.

This might not be it for Colon, but it should be the end of his Braves career; the team doesn't want to stick with a six-man rotation and Colon is now 2-8 with an 8.14 ERA after failing to hold his own against the league's second-worst offense.
