Giants placed RHP Hunter Strickland on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.

Strickland broke his pitching hand Monday when he punched a door following a blown save against the Marlins. He will undergo surgery and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Tony Watson and Sam Dyson were floated as the likeliest fill-in options at closer Tuesday by Giants manager Bruce Bochy, though Mark Melancon could eventually retake the role.

Matt Joyce (back) is on track to return to the Athletics' active roster this weekend.

Joyce had three hits in his second minor league rehab game Tuesday at Triple-A Nashville, after going 1-for-3 in his rehab debut on Monday. The veteran outfielder was batting just .196 with a .677 OPS through 55 games with Oakland when he landed on the disabled list June 3 with a back injury.

Matt Chapman got a cortisone injection for his sore right hand on Tuesday.

The hope is that he responds well to the cortisone and is able to begin swinging a bat on Thursday. Chapman was placed on the disabled list June 16 with discomfort in his right hand, but an MRI showed no structural damage, so he shouldn't be out too long. This has been a breakout season for the 25-year-old third baseman.

Dodgers recalled RHP Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stewart will serve as the 26th man for the Dodgers in the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. He has posted a 5.60 ERA in two starts and six relief appearances this year the major league level.

Dodgers activated LHP Rich Hill from the 10-day disabled list.

Hill is set to rejoin the Dodgers' starting rotation for the second half of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader at Wrigley Field after missing a month with a blister on his left middle finger. The veteran southpaw struck out 10 batters over 4 2/3 innings in his lone rehab start last Thursday at High-A Rancho Cucamonga. He should be a valuable fantasy asset moving forward, assuming he can stay blister-free.

Dodgers optioned INF/OF Breyvic Valera to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The move clears a 25-man roster spot for Rich Hill, who will return to the Dodgers' starting rotation for the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. Valera has hit just .172/.273/.172 in 19 games (29 at-bats) this season at the major league level.

Hunter Strickland broke his right (pitching) hand when he punched a door after leaving Monday's game against the Marlins.

Strickland had just blown a save versus Miami, yielding three runs on three hits and two walks, but he made an ugly night even uglier. The 29-year-old right-hander will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks. Giants manager Bruce Bochy mentioned Tony Watson and Sam Dyson as possible fill-ins at closer during a chat with the media on Tuesday. Watson, who holds a stingy 1.87 ERA and 40/6 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings this season, would be our pick right now. Mark Melancon could eventually work his way into the mix too.

Franchy Cordero (forearm) was pulled off his rehab assignment after feeling something in his elbow on a swing two days ago.

Cordero had been playing in minor league rehab games with Triple-A El Paso, but he has since been shut down and was scheduled to visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday. There should be more clarity on his status sometime Wednesday. The 23-year-old outfielder was placed on the disabled list May 28 after being diagnosed with a mild right forearm strain.
