ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett said the PUP list is a "serious consideration" for S Jarius Byrd (knee).
The Saints expected Byrd to return to practice before the end of the preseason, but he has yet to see the field. The details of Byrd's injury are not known, but he is believed to be dealing with complications from the torn meniscus which caused him to miss all but four games last season. Byrd signed a six-year, $54 million contract last offseason.
Dolphins released P Brandon Fields.
Fields restructured his contract in March in a bid to keep his roster spot. Matt Darr will open the season as the Dolphins' punter.
Vikings waived/injured QB Mike Kafka.
He will revert to injured reserve once he passes through waivers. Depending on the severity of the injury, Kafka could be released with an injury settlement. This transaction gets the Vikings down to 75 players.
Panthers released WR Jarrett Boykin.
The acquisition of Kevin Norwood from Seattle on Monday likely sealed his fate. Boykin caught 49 passes with the Packers in 2013 but has struggled to find playing time since. Being cut by a receiver-needy team like the Panthers is not a great sign for his NFL future. Carolina also cut S Robert Lester.
Browns placed QB Connor Shaw (thumb) on injured reserve.
Shaw broke the thumb on his throwing hand in the first preseason game and underwent surgery in mid-August. He should be 100 percent for the offseason program. Cleveland also placed OT Michael Bowie (shoulder) on injured reserve. CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (knee), TE Randall Telfer (foot) and RB Glenn Winston (knee) were placed on the reserve/NFI list.
9News' Mike Klis left does not believe Broncos RB Montee Ball will make the final roster.
Ball has been steadily falling down the depth chart all offseason and played behind Juwan Thompson in the third preseason game. Ball should get one more shot in the fourth preseason game to show his worth, but right now his job is anything but secure.
Panthers released CB Melvin White.
White started games for the Panthers as recently as last season, but he was benched last year was well behind Charles Tillman on the depth chart. With White gone, Teddy Williams will likely make the final 53.
ESPN's Britt McHenry reports T.Y. Hilton (concussion) is expected to be cleared on Thursday.
Hilton and the rest of the Colts' starters are unlikely to play in the final preseason game, but being cleared this week puts Hilton on track for the season opener. Hilton is a borderline WR1.
