The New York Post confirms Chris Stewart (groin) will not be placed on the disabled list.

Stewart injured himself when he slid into third base awkwardly during Thursday's game, but he's not expected to miss more than 2-3 games. An MRI on Friday ruled out structural damage. The Yankees are listing him as day-to-day.

Ike Davis - 1B - Mets

ESPN New York reports that the Mets have "intensified" discussions about potentially demoting Ike Davis.

Davis was able to snap a six game hitless streak Friday, but he may not have more than this weekend's series against the Cubs to prove he deserves to avoid a demotion. If Davis is sent down, the Mets are expected to call up Andrew Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace him on the active roster. Davis is batting .160/.245/.267 with four home runs in 38 games this season.

The White Sox are expected to call up left-hander Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.

Veal struggled with the White Sox earlier this season, but hasn't allowed a run in four appearances (eight innings) at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old will provide bullpen depth as a left-handed specialist.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday that Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee, groin) had "a little bit of a setback."

Hairston was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a left groin strain, but he's now dealing with a knee issue. The setback means that he won't be activated from the DL next week when first eligible. The Dodgers are expected to send him on a rehab assignment before he's cleared to return.

White Sox optioned RHP Deunte Heath to Triple-A Charlotte.

Heath appeared in four games with the White Sox and posted an 11.12 ERA. Donnie Veal will likely be called up to replace him on the active roster.

Pinch-hitter Chad Tracy homered off Huston Street in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Nationals to a 6-5 win over the Padres on Friday.

Incredibly, it was the first RBI for a Nationals pinch-hitter in 42 games this season. It was also the sixth homer surrendered by Street in 17 1/3 innings, tripling his total from his 39 innings pitched last year.

Despite taking a comebacker off his pitching hand, Drew Storen pitched a scoreless 10th inning Friday against the Padres for his first save.

Aided by a Ryan Zimmerman throwing error, Rafael Soriano took a blown save in the ninth. Storen got his chance in the 10th after a Chad Tracy homer and got the job done, though not before allowing a couple of singles. The first of those was a hard shot up the middle that deflected off his pitching hand. Storen, though, remained in after a couple of warmups. His ERA sits at 4.41 currently, and he's no threat to Soriano's job as is.

Adam LaRoche hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs Friday in the win over the Padres.

LaRoche had a three-run shot in the fourth and then hit the second of back-to-back homers with Ryan Zimmerman in the sixth. He's now collected four homers in three games after totaling just three in his first 36 games.
