Nationals optioned C Pedro Severino to Triple-A Syracuse.

Brian Goodwin, Matt Grace and Rafael Martin are also headed to Syracuse while Emmanuel Burriss has been reassigned to minor league camp. Severino was up with the Nationals a bit last season while Wilson Ramos was out with a torn ACL. This year the Nats are going with Matt Wieters and Jose Lobaton behind the plate.

Justin Nicolino hurled five shutout innings in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Cardinals.

He gave up just three hits and a walk while fanning three, lowering his ERA to 3.86 in 16 1/3 innings of Grapefruit League action. Despite his solid body of work this spring the 25-year-old southpaw seems ticketed for Triple-A to begin the year. He registered a 4.99 ERA with only 37 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings for the Marlins in 2016.

Devon Travis went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Saturday versus the Yankees.

He was playing in just his second game of the spring after recovering from knee surgery. He figures to serve as the Blue Jays' starting second baseman this season but may not be ready by Opening Day. The 26-year-old managed a .300 batting average with 11 home runs and 54 runs scored in 101 games in 2016.
Mar 25 - 5:20 PM

Astros reassigned OF Jon Kemmer to minor league camp.

Alejandro Garcia, Jordan Jankowski and Tyson Perez were also sent down on Saturday. Kemmer impressed this spring, hitting .308 with one homer and five RBI across 26 Cactus League at-bats. Houston's roster is down to 34 players with Opening Day a little over a week away.

Mat Latos gave up three runs -- two earned -- in three innings of work in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday.

He gave up five hits, including one home run, and a walk without notching a strikeout. He sits on a 6.75 ERA in 14 2/3 innings of Grapefruit League action. He is a non-roster invitee to Blue Jays camp and seems unlikely to crack their starting rotation. The team will soon decide whether to take him north as a reliever or cut him loose. He put up a 4.89 ERA in 70 innings with the White Sox and Nationals last season.
Mar 25 - 5:14 PM

Yasmany Tomas (oblique) is playing in a minor league game on Saturday.

He's expected to get at least four at-bats. Tomas should be back with the Diamondbacks in a few days if he makes it out of Saturday's game in one piece. Manager Torey Lovullo has already said he expects Tomas to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 25 - 5:08 PM

Greg Bird walked twice and hit his seventh home run of the spring in a 6-5 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

He is now tied with Kansas City's Peter O'Brien for the most homers of the spring. Bird currently holds a .444 batting average in 45 at-bats. He has officially sewn up the starting job at first base for the Yankees. The 24-year-old missed all of last season with a torn labrum in his shoulder.
Mar 25 - 5:07 PM

Tony Sipp was scratched from his scheduled appearance on Saturday because of back stiffness.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he suffered the injury after throwing on Friday. He has just nine days to get healthy before Houston's season opener against Seattle. Sipp is coming off a down year in 2016 (4.95 ERA over 60 appearances) but has a proven track record as a lefty specialist.
