John Jerry is expected to fill in as the Giants' starting left guard while Geoff Schwartz (toe) is out.

Most expected rookie Weston Richburg to take over for Schwartz, but he could end up being the Giants' center or right guard with C J.D. Walton struggling badly this preseason and RG Brandon Mosley injured. Jerry played 56 snaps in the preseason finale. He also hasn't been good this summer, but has plenty of starting experience. The G-Men are going to have trouble up front.

Stephen Hill caught just one pass for 13 yards in Thursday's preseason finale.

He also dropped a pass, which has become a daily routine this summer. Hill seems like a goner. Expect the Jets to dangle him in trade talks the next 24-plus hours before eventually cutting him Saturday afternoon. Hill is competing with Greg Salas for a roster spot. Coach Rex Ryan praised Salas earlier this week.

ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson predicts Derek Carr will start the Week 1 opener against the Jets.

Coach Dennis Allen had previously been married to Matt Schaub as his Week 1 starter. But following Carr's impressive preseason finale against the Seahawks, Allen was less committed to Schaub, saying he'll have to see where Schaub (elbow, day-to-day) is at health-wise. Carr has a big arm and would give the Raiders' receivers a boost. He and Denarius Moors hooked up for two touchdowns Thursday. Carr gives the Raiders their best chance to win games.

UDFA RB Isaiah Crowell rushed 13 times for 102 yards with a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against the Bears.

With Ben Tate and Dion Lewis playing sparingly, Crowell finally got an extensive chance in the preseason. The former five-star recruit made the most of it, thoroughly outplaying a disappointing Terrance West (six carries, 13 yards). The Browns may have shot themselves in the foot now though, as Crowell will be almost impossible to sneak onto the practice squad. They have some hard decisions to make at the running back spot before Saturday.

Steelers WR Martavis Bryant sustained a right AC shoulder sprain during Thursday's preseason game against the Panthers.

The severity of Bryant's sprain is unknown. The fourth-round rookie finishes the preseason with six catches for 68 yards with one touchdown. Perhaps the Steelers will stash him on IR/recall as he was unlikely to crack the active roster on Sundays anyway.

The rib injury Sammy Watkins suffered Thursday night is in the same area as the one he suffered on August 17.

Watkins was led too far on a slant by E.J. Manuel, allowing the rookie to take a forearm to the ribs from Lions LB Ashlee Palmer. Watkins was escorted to the locker room for tests, the results of which are unknown. With this recurring injury and Manuel looking like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, Watkins is a prime candidate to be overdrafted.

Eagles K Cody Parkey went 3-of-3 on field goals in Thursday night's preseason finale, including two from 50-plus.

This should be the end of the Alex Henery era in Philadelphia. The shaky Henery has never made a single field goal longer than 51 yards in his career, and Parkey goes out and makes one from 53 and another from 54. We'll know for certain on Saturday, but it's looking like kicker streamers can turn to Parkey.

Working as the starter, Derek Carr completed 11-of-13 passes for 143 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Thursday's preseason finale against the Seahawks.

Carr stood tall in the pocket, threw darts all over the field and led the Raiders on four straight touchdown drives against the defending Super Bowl champs. In other words, he was the anti-Matt Schaub (elbow, day to day). In three preseason outings, Carr is 30-of-45 (66.6%) for 326 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. To steal a quote from Joe Theismann, if this were a competition, there wouldn't be a competition. The Raiders must realize that Carr, not Schaub, gives them the best chance to win football games.
