Shelby Miller will start fort the Cardinals on Saturday at Wrigley Field.

Carlos Martinez is being moved back to the bullpen. Miller has not been good this season, but Martinez had gone just four innings in back-to-back starts. The Cardinals are expected to acquire a starter at the deadline, so both pitchers could be relievers by August.

Anthony Swarzak was superb in a spot start Wednesday, holding the Indians to one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three in a 3-1 victory.

Swarzak, who was starting in place of Kyle Gibson (back) hadn’t thrown more than 52 pitches in an outing this season, but he was able to get his pitch count up to 74 Wednesday. He lowered his ERA for the year to 4.10 with the fine showing. Swarzak will be unavailable for a few days before likely returning to a long relief role, though it’s possible he’s earned another start if Gibson doesn’t recover as hoped.

Trevor Bauer notched a quality start with three runs allowed over six innings but took a loss against the Twins Wednesday.

He struck out seven on the day but surrendered an RBI single in the third, an RBI double in the fifth and a home run in the sixth. Bauer gave up six hits and walked a pair on the day. It was the right-hander’s fourth straight quality start, as he’s lowered his ERA from 4.42 to 3.93 over that stretch. He’ll take on the Mariners at home next week.

Glen Perkins notched his 24th save of the season with a scoreless inning in Wednesday's win over the Indians.

Carlos Santana smacked a double off the left field wall to lead off the inning, but Perkins retired the side with a flyout and pair of strikeouts to end the threat. The left-hander has been scored upon in just one of his last 10 appearances to lower his ERA to 2.76.

Oswaldo Arcia singled and launched a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Indians.

Arcia's blast was a long one to right field in the sixth inning as he padded the Twins' lead to 3-1, which is what the final ended up being. While the 23-year-old has tons of raw power, it's clear with a .222/.310/.378 batting line that he has some holes in his swing still.

Jose Ramirez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in Wednesday's loss to the Twins.

Called up earlier in the day as a reinforcement for Asdrubal Cabrera (back), Ramirez hit second in the batting order and drove in the only run of the day for the Tribe. He should start a shortstop as long as Cabrera is out, but Cabrera has a shot to return as soon as Thursday.
Jul 23 - 4:00 PM

The Pirates will place Starling Marte on the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game.

Marte took a fastball off his helmet on Friday, and although he was cleared off a possible concussion and played Monday, it appears he's had a setback. The Pirates should provide more on his status later Wednesday. Brent Morel will take his spot on the roster.

Rangers prospect RHP Luis Ortiz allowed only one hit and struck out three batters Tuesday in three scoreless innings in the Rookie-level Arizona League.

Ortiz, the No. 30 overall pick in this year's draft, has been almost flawless in his first four professional outings, as he's allowed just five hits and tallied nine strikeouts in eight scoreless innings. The 18-year-old has hasn't shown any lingering effects from the forearm injury that limited him in the spring, as the three innings he logged Tuesday marked his longest outing of his brief professional career.
