Angels optioned RHP Brooks Pounders to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Pounders was only up in the majors for a day and worked a scoreless inning of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Rays. Thursday's starter Daniel Wright will take over the vacant 25-man roster spot.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker confirmed late Wednesday that Koda Glover is the club's closer.

Baker made it official after Glover worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning in a non-save situation Wednesday night against the Mariners. "Koda was kind of lobbying for that in the first place," Baker said. "We wanted to break him in slowly because this guy’s ... shoot, he’s only a year-and-a-half out of college. So he had said that’s the job he wanted, and so it’s his now." Shawn Kelley and Blake Treinen will work in setup duty.

Yankees recalled INF/OF Rob Refsnyder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

This is the corresponding move to Jacoby Ellsbury's placement on the 7-day concussion disabled list late Wednesday night. Refsnyder has logged just three at-bats this season at the major league level.

Maikel Franco is back in the Phillies' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

The young third baseman will hit cleanup after getting benched for two days. He has struggled to the tune of a .221/.281/.377 slash line so far in 2017.

Pirates activated OF Gregory Polanco from the 10-day disabled list.

Polanco was on the disabled list for exactly 10 days with a strained left hamstring. He is not in the starting lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Braves, but the 25-year-old outfielder should be available off the bench and he figures to start Friday's series opener versus the Mets. Polanco owns a disappointing .252/.336/.370 batting line with one home run and six stolen bases in 34 games this season.

Pirates optioned OF Daniel Ortiz to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ortiz went 1-for-12 during his short stay at the major league level. Gregory Polanco (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
May 25 - 10:10 AM

Andrew McCutchen is out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon.

Adam Frazier will start in center field and Jose Osuna will start in right field in the Bucs' series finale against the Braves. McCutchen has posted a disappointing .203/.274/.360 batting line in 46 games this season for Pittsburgh.

Brad Boxberger (lat, forearm) is scheduled to throw live batting practice next Monday and Thursday at the Rays' spring training complex.

Wilson Ramos (knee) will catch with Brad Miller (abdomen) and Matt Duffy (heel) taking live swings. Boxberger has been on the disabled list all season because of a lat issue and a strained flexor tendon in his right forearm, but it sounds like the setup man could be ready to rock sometime in early-to-mid June.
