Matt Kemp will serve as the designated hitter in Tuesday's interleague contest against the Mariners.
Christian Bethancourt was the DH on Monday, but he's behind the plate in Tuesday's game while Derek Norris is on the bench. Travis Jankowski is starting in right field.
Caleb Joseph (groin) is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Joseph was taken to the hospital after being hit in the groin by a foul ball during Monday's game. The injury will require some extended rest. Francisco Pena is expected to be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to replace him on the active roster.
Evan Gattis will start behind the plate Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
This will be his fourth start behind the plate. Gattis is batting .298 with four homers and a .961 OPS in 52 plate appearances since returning from the minors and he's on the verge of an uptick of value when he gains catcher-eligibility in fantasy leagues.
Carlos Gomez will bat seventh in his return from the disabled list Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
This is where he batted most of the time before hitting the disabled list with a bruised left rib cage earlier this month. The 30-year-old returns to a disappointing .182/.238/.248 batting line.
Welington Castillo is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros.
It's just a routine day of rest. Chris Herrmann will start behind the plate and bat sixth against right-hander Lance McCullers.
Jordan Zimmermann (groin) had no issues doing pitchers' fielding practice on Monday.
This came one day after Zimmermann threw a bullpen session. "Today was another test and everything was fine," said Zimmermann. "I didn’t feel one single thing." The veteran right-hander will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday and if all goes well, he'll make his return Friday against the White Sox.
Domingo Santana (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Biloxi.
Santana has been out since May 18 with a lingering injury to his right shoulder. The 23-year-old should be back with the Brewers within a week or so, but Jonathan Villar has run away with the leadoff spot during his absence.
Astros activated OF Carlos Gomez from the 15-day disabled list.
Gomez, who has been out since May 15 with a bruised left rib cage, will make his return Tuesday. The 30-year-old went 5-for-20 (.250) with a homer over five games during his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Corpus Christi. He was batting just .182/.238/.248 over 34 games prior to the injury. The Astros and fantasy owners are hoping that the time off did him some good.
