Ryan Rua has taken over starting left field duties for the Rangers.
"We have given [Jurickson] Profar a long enough look, now we are going to give Rua an opportunity," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Tuesday. "He is moving over from a platoon and we're giving him bulk at-bats together. We are trying to get a guy and see if he can spark. It wasn't happening on the other end." Beyond the stated Profar impact, this also means less playing time for Delino DeShields. It's not a fruitful position for fantasy owners.
Rays pitching prospect Taylor Guerrieri has no structural damage in his right elbow.
Guerrieri is probably still going to miss a couple of months, but rest and rehab should do the trick for the 2011 first-round pick. He's posted promising numbers in the minors when healthy, but 2016 was his first season of more than 80 innings. Guerrieri had Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in 2013.
C.J. Cron is out of the Angels' starting lineup again on Tuesday.
Cron was also benched Monday. He's batting just .203/.259/.226 through 59 plate appearances this season, with zero home runs and two RBI in 15 games. Jefry Marte will start at first base and bat fifth Tuesday night against Athletics right-hander Jesse Hahn.
Dodgers designated RHP Joe Gunkel for assignment.
The move clears a 40-man roster spot for 1B/OF prospect Cody Bellinger, who's making his major league debut on Tuesday night against the Giants. Gunkel was acquired from the Orioles on April 10 in a minor trade. He's a 25-year-old with a 4.07 career ERA at Triple-A.
Nick Pivetta will make his major league debut Saturday against the Dodgers.
That debut was supposed to happen Wednesday, but Vince Velasquez is hopping back a day after Tuesday night's weather postponement. Pivetta has put up really good numbers this year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but he might not be up for long and he's getting the Dodgers on the road in his first start. Mixed leaguers can pass.
Erasmo Ramirez was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night against the Orioles.
There are uncertain weather conditions in Baltimore and the Rays don't want to mess with Ramirez on a night that include multiple delays. Ramirez held the Tigers to one run over five innings in his sharp 2017 debut last Thursday. Austin Pruitt will start against the O's instead on Tuesday, and Ramirez could be available out of the bullpen.
Dodgers optioned OF Brett Eibner to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Eibner has gone 1-for-5 in a few different stints with the big league club this year. He'll probably be up and down all summer.
Dodgers purchased the contract of OF/1B Cody Bellinger from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Bellinger is starting in left field and batting eighth in his MLB debut Tuesday night against Giants left-hander Ty Blach. The 21-year-old has put up huge offensive numbers at multiple levels of the minor leagues and immediately deserves a look in deeper mixed fantasy leagues with Rob Segedin (toe), Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring), and Joc Pederson (groin) all currently sidelined. Bellinger could carve out a big role if he gets off to a hot start.
