Steve Cishek slammed the door on the Astros on Friday, setting down the side in order in the ninth inning, including a pair of strikeouts.

It's the second straight day that Cishek has fired a perfect inning in a save situation, and he has now converted 25 of his 28 chances on the year. There have been some rumblings that he could be made available before the trade deadline, but regardless of what jersey he wears he should remain a very steady source of saves.

Brad Hand absolutely dominated the Astros offense on Friday, hurling 7 1/3 shutout innings while allowing just three hits.

Hand punched out four on the night while walking two. The 24-year-old now owns a 4.19 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 36/24 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 innings on the season. He remains an unattractive fantasy option when he takes on the Nationals at home on Wednesday.

Playing in the majors for the first time since the 2009 season, Gregorio Petit went 1-for-2 in a losing effort against the Marlins on Friday.

With Marwin Gonzalez struggling to recover from a hamstring injury, Petit could stand to see additional playing time over the next couple of weeks. He was having a nice season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, slashing .297/.340/.457 with 10 homers and 43 RBI.
Jul 25 - 11:28 PM

Jesus Guzman's nightmarish 2014 season continued in Friday's loss to the Marlins, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

The main reason that Guzman has a job on the Astros bench is his ability to mash left-handed pitching, so when he fails to do that it gives cause for concern. He's hitting a mere .197/.274/.268 with two homers and seven RBI in 142 at-bats on the year.
Jul 25 - 11:22 PM

Dallas Keuchel suffered a tough luck loss against the Marlins on Friday, allowing just two unearned runs on nine hits over his seven strong innings.

He punched out seven without issuing a walk on the evening. It was certainly an encouraging start for Keuchel, who appears to be completely over his wrist injury. A defensive miscue by Kike Hernandez ended up being responsible for a pair of runs scoring in the seventh inning, and that was the only offense in the ballgame. He'll bring a 3.11 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 99/30 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's matchup against the Athletics.
Jul 25 - 11:19 PM

Jose Abreu launched his 30th home run of the season on Friday, powering the White Sox to a 9-5 victory over the Twins in Minnesota.

The White Sox came out of the gate firing in this one, with a pair of singles to start the game followed by Abreu’s three-run blast off Kevin Correia. He finished the night 2-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored, and is now hitting .292/.341/.620 with 30 long balls and 77 RBI in his first 353 big league at-bats. He's easily the favorite to take home Rookie of the Year honors in the American League.

Jesse Hahn fired six innings of one-run ball in a 5-2 win over the Braves on Friday.

Hahn was solid in his return to the majors, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four batters. The only run scored on a sacrifice fly from Justin Upton his final inning of work. The 24-year-old now owns a 2.12 ERA and 51/19 K/BB ratio in 46 2/3 innings over eight starts this season. The Padres don't figure to score many runs for him (even after the past two nights), but he should be relevant in mixed leagues as long as he's in the rotation.
Jul 25 - 11:13 PM

Alex Wood was chased after giving up five runs (four earned) over five innings Friday against the Padres.

Wood gave up a career-high 12 hits in the loss. Just to put things in perspective, he had allowed 11 hits over his previous three starts combined. While it was an unexpected clunker, Wood remains a solid option in fantasy leagues for the second half. The young southpaw will face the Dodgers next week on the road.
