Francisco Liriano fanned seven while allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings Sunday against the Orioles.

The slider has been working for Liriano all spring; he's sporting a 25/4 K/BB ratio in just 14 1/3 innings. He'd still look really good in the Pirates rotation right about now.

Ryan Flaherty tripled in his long at-bat off the bench Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Flaherty was making his third appearance since returning from a 10-day absence due to a sore shoulder. Barring a setback, he'll have his usual spot on the bench come Opening Day. He's not going to play much while everyone is healthy, though.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times believes that Mallex Smith not only will make the Opening Day roster but will likely be in the lineup for the season opener.

Colby Rasmus (hip) isn't ready to play the outfield yet and will begin the season on the disabled list, and Topkin writes that Smith will get "a chance to show what he can do and how dynamic a duo he can form with (Kevin) Kiermaier." Smith probably isn't guaranteed anything beyond fill-in status until Rasmus is ready, but he could certainly play his way into a regular role. He could be a difference-maker in fantasy leagues with his speed if he sees regular at-bats.

Mike Leake scattered seven hits over six innings in the Cardinals' 3-0 shutout of the Marlins on Sunday.

Leake lowered his spring ERA to 3.81. He was terrific last spring before his disappointing season, finishing with a 2.25 ERA and a 24/2 K/BB ratio in 20 innings during Grapefruit League action. This year, he has a 14/6 K/BB ratio in 26 innings. He looks like a fringe guy in mixed leagues right now.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Jesus Sucre is likely to make the Rays' Opening Day roster.

He and new addition Derek Norris will form the Rays' catching duo until Wilson Ramos (knee) is ready. Curt Casali or Luke Maile will be the odd men out, with Casali possibly being trade bait. Sucre is a defense-first catcher who probably won't play a ton, so he can be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Mar 26 - 3:37 PM

Matt Bowman pitched two scoreless innings Sunday to maintain his flawless spring ERA.

Bowman has allowed just an unearned run over nine innings. He has a 7/0 K/BB ratio. The Cardinals carried him throughout last season after taking him from the Mets in the Rule 5 draft. They're able to send him back to the minors now, but they have absolutely no plans to do so.
Mar 26 - 3:36 PM

Dexter Fowler went 2-for-3 and hit his first homer of the spring Sunday against the Marlins.

Fowler is off to a fine start with his new team, hitting .351 with a 1.063 OPS this spring. He's expected to be a fixture in the leadoff spot ahead of Aledmys Diaz and Matt Carpenter in the Cardinals' order.
Mar 26 - 3:34 PM

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times thinks the Rays will attempt to trade Curt Casali.

They could also consider dealing Luke Maile following the signing of Derek Norris, but it appears Casali is more likely to be dealt. Jesus Sucre is expected to open the season along with Norris as the team's two catchers until Wilson Ramos (knee) is ready. Casali has hit 18 homers over 369 plate appearances over the last two seasons but has batted just .202/.282/.416 overall.
