Dustin Pedroia (knee) compared his rehab to being at the start of spring training.

Pedroia underwent knee surgery in October and evidently still has a long way to go in his recovery. It's going to be a while before he begins a minor league rehab assignment. Eduardo Nunez has been filling in at second base for the BoSox, who owns the majors' best record at 15-2.

Hunter Pence underwent an MRI on his injured right thumb.

The Giants are still waiting on the results but all signs point to Pence landing on the disabled list. Mac Williamson wasn't in the lineup for Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, suggesting he could be on his way to the big leagues to replace Pence.

Brewers designated RHP Alec Asher for assignment.

The Brewers had to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Tyler Saladino, who was just acquired in a trade with the White Sox. Asher owns a 3.00 ERA in one start for Triple-A Colorado Springs this year. The Brewers could retain Asher and stash him in the minors if he clears waivers.

Brewers acquired INF Tyler Saladino from the White Sox in exchange for cash.

The White Sox traded him to make room for Trayce Thompson, who was acquired in a trade with Oakland on Thursday. Saladino will begin his Brewers' tenure with Triple-A Colorado Springs. He's only logged eight at-bats at the major league level this year.
Apr 19 - 8:27 PM

White Sox acquired OF Trayce Thompson from the Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

He was designated for assignment on Tuesday. This will be the fourth team Thompson has played for in less than a month. The 27-year-old was actually drafted by the White Sox and made his big league debut for them in 2015. He's struggled at the plate this year, collecting just one hit in seven at-bats.
Apr 19 - 8:25 PM

Brewers optioned RHP Lou Trivino to Triple-A Nashville.

The A's will likely send up a fresh arm to replace Trivino, who logged three innings in Wednesday's marathon win over the White Sox. The right-hander pitched well during his brief stint in the majors and should be back up with Oakland later this year.
Apr 19 - 8:24 PM

Madison Bumgarner had pins removed from his injured hand.

It's the latest step in Bumgarner's recovery from a broken left pinkie, which he suffered late in spring training. The left-hander is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 25 and manager Bruce Bochy expects he'll be able to do just that. His return would likely bump Derek Holland from the starting rotation.
Apr 19 - 8:12 PM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Mark Melancon (forearm) is a week away from playing catch.

This is consistent with the timetable Melancon was given last week when he underwent a stem cell injection in his injured forearm. Melancon can resume throwing next week but he's still a ways off from rejoining the Giants' bullpen. Hunter Strickland will continue to handle save chances in Melancon's absence.
