Jason Heyward knocked a solo homer in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Heyward's blast in the second inning that landed in the basket at Wrigley Field looked feeble compared to Kyle Schwarber's monster shot in the first, but they counted just the same. The outfielder has a hit in all three games since returning from the disabled list and has reached base five times.

Gregory Polanco (hamstring) took on-field batting practice Tuesday evening.

He also took additional hacks in an indoor cage and did some light running. "I feel so good," Polanco said after the workout. "I'm going to get back in the lineup soon." It sounds like the 25-year-old outfielder could be activated from the disabled list this weekend, forgoing a minor league rehab assignment.

Kyle Schwarber crushed a mammoth solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Schwarber's blast off of Johnny Cueto in the first inning cleared the bleachers in right field and was estimated at a distance of 470 feet. It was the only hit on the night for Schwarber, who struck out a couple times.

Matt Shoemaker allowed three hits over 6 1/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Rays on Tuesday.

Shoemaker has won three straight. He's sporting a 3.23 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings over his last seven starts.

Alex Cobb was charged with four runs in 7 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Angels.

Cobb should have been done after allowing two runs in seven innings, but Kevin Cash wanted him to face the top of the Angels' lineup for a fourth time. After a one-out walk to Mike Trout and an Albert Pujols single, Cobb was pulled, and Danny Farquhar came in and allowed both runs to score. That's not good managing.
May 23 - 10:30 PM

Brandon Crawford drove in the Giants' only run in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs with an RBI double.

The Giants managed just four hits and no walks against Jon Lester, but they did scrape together a run in the fifth when Buster Posey and Crawford each doubled. Crawford has driven in just 14 runs so far this season to go along with a .267/.297/.442 batting line.
May 23 - 10:30 PM

Mike Trout hit his 15th homer and walked Tuesday against the Rays.

Trout hit his 15th homer on June 25, his 75th game, last year. It took him 42 games this season.
May 23 - 10:27 PM

Andrelton Simmons went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk against the Rays on Tuesday.

Simmons struggled in the first half of May, but he is 10-for-20 with five extra-base hits in his last five games. At this rate, he'll probably be the Angels' cleanup hitter tomorrow.
