Drew Smyly (shoulder) is expected to face live hitters in his next throwing session.
Smyly tossed another bullpen session on Sunday and felt fine. He told reporters that he's confident he'll be able to make his 2015 debut sometime in April. "It would be something that goes on, a setback for me to not pitch in April," said the left-hander.
Red Sox acquired C Sandy Leon from the Nationals.
Leon was out of options and doubtful to make the Nationals' Opening Day roster. A much better opportunity awaits him in Boston, where he will serve as the backup to starting Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan. Christian Vazquez may be facing elbow surgery.
Cody Asche is back in the Phillies' lineup Monday.
Asche sat out a few games with tightness in his back. He will start at third base on Opening Day.
An MRI taken Sunday on Casey Janssen's right shoulder showed no major structural damage.
Janssen felt discomfort in his throwing shoulder after his latest Grapefruit League appearance, but it sounds like he'll be fine with a bit of rest. Opening Day is just a week away, so the right-hander might have to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Marlins released OF Reed Johnson.
Johnson batted just .205/.225/.231 in 40 plate appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 38-year-old was in Marlins camp on a minor league deal and never had a great shot at making the roster.
Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.
Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez won the final two bench spots. Collins should get a look at some point.
Tigers optioned C Bryan Holaday to Triple-A Toledo.
James McCann will open the 2015 regular season as the backup to starting catcher Alex Avila.
David Lough (back, hamstring) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.
He had been expected to return to game action on Monday, though he has already been ruled out due to a sore hamstring. If placed on the disabled list, Lough wouldn't be eligible to join the Orioles until April 11 at the earliest.
