Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

The dinger was the first for Gomez since being dealt to the Astros as the deadline. He's hitting .348 with four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base through five games in the American League. Gomez should continue to produce good numbers in the middle of the Astros lineup going forward.

Shawn Tolleson worked out of a jam against the Astros on Tuesday to earn his 20th save of the season.

Tolleson surrendered a leadoff walk and gave up a single to put two runners on with nobody out, but he bounced back to record a groundout and a strikeout before fanning Jose Altuve to end the game. The first-time closer owns a shiny 2.98 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 51/10 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings this year.

Delino DeShields had an RBI triple, scored a run and stole a base in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

DeShields hit a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning, his seventh triple of the season. He also walked and stole his 18th base of the season in the game. The 22-year-old is batting .270/.369/.394 on the year.
Aug 5 - 12:44 AM

Dan Straily allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.

Straily, making his first start since July 8, got through three innings unharmed before allowing four runs over his next 1 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits and walked three in total. With Mike Fiers expected to be ready to take his next turn, it's unclear when Straily will next appear. When he does, it will be with a 5.87 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.
Aug 5 - 12:41 AM

Yovani Gallardo lasted just five innings but stuck around long enough to earn the win Tuesday, holding the Astros to three runs in a victory.

Gallardo gave up just four hits and walked two, but he needed 98 pitches to get through five innings. The win was Gallardo's first since June 27. The right-hander is now 8-9 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 23 starts. He'll look to make it two in a row Tuesday at the Twins.
Aug 5 - 12:34 AM

Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored as the Rays trounced the White Sox 11-3 on Tuesday.

Cabrera hit one of the Rays' four homers on the night, taking reliever Daniel Webb deep in the seventh inning. It was his third consecutive two-hit game and extended his hitting streak to a modest eight games. Cabrera has raised his average 21 points in that span, and he's now hitting .241/.294/.390 with seven homers on the season.
Aug 5 - 12:18 AM

Avisail Garcia went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a loss against the Rays on Tuesday.

Garcia salvaged his night a bit with the blast, a solo shot in the ninth inning of a blowout. Somewhat unbelievably, it was Garcia's first homer since June 8. The outfielder has struggled to hit for power for much of the year, batting just .267/.312/.369 with 34 RBI and 41 runs scored.
Aug 5 - 12:14 AM

Richie Shaffer hit his first major league home run in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.

Shaffer took reliever Daniel Webb deep for a solo homer in the seventh inning to get on the board. He also walked and scored another run in the game. It's not surprising that it took Shaffer just two games to find the seats, as he hit 16 homers in 55 games at Triple-A this year before being promoted. The homer certainly won't be the last for the former first-round pick.
