Yankees optioned RHP Bryan Mitchell to Double-A Trenton.
Mitchell was up in the majors to provide bullpen depth behind Vidal Nuno in Sunday's spot start. The 23-year-old right-hander should get another look eventually.
According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, lefty Zach Braddock is working out for the Dodgers on Monday.
Braddock was released by the Padres at the end of spring training after failing to impress in camp. The 26-year-old southpaw owns a 4.41 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 51 career major league innings, and he hasn't made an appearance in a major league game since 2011.
Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Sunday that he hopes Jose Veras can eventually return to ninth-inning duties.
Veras has been bumped from the Cubs' closer job temporarily as he works through some early-season kinks. "We certainly want to make sure we give Jose a chance to get back into the role and try to find situations we can allow him to work," said Renteria. "We're going to do our very best that he gets into a comfort level." Pedro Strop, Hector Rondon, and Justin Grimm are forming a ninth-inning committee for now.

David Freese (quadriceps) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his return to action Sunday.
Freese missed a couple of games with a minor quadriceps injury. The former World Series hero is batting just .143 with a .393 OPS on the season and could be in danger of losing his starting third base job to Ian Stewart.
The Angels are expected to recall Nick Maronde from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
They optioned Josh Wall to Triple-A after Sunday's loss to the Tigers, and it's believe that the 24-year-old Maronde is on his way to join the team in Washington. He appeared in four games with the Angels before his demotion, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 5/1 K/BB ratio in three innings.
