Whit Merrifield belted his second home run of the season as the Royals topped the Tigers 3-2 to salvage the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader.

Merrifield got the Royals on the board with a solo shot off of Tigers' starter Daniel Norris in the fifth inning. He finished the evening 1-for-5 and is now hitting .271/.354/.400 with a pair of long balls and five RBI on the season.

Abraham Almonte delivered a game-tying pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth inning of Friday's victory over the Tigers.

Almonte made the most of his lone at-bat in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, lining a Shane Greene offering into right field that plated Ryan Goins to tie the game. He has struggled in his limited action with the Royals this year, hitting just .154/.185/.269 with two RBI.
Apr 20 - 9:59 PM

Kelvin Herrera worked a scoreless ninth inning in the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader, protecting a one-run lead to earn his third save of the season.

Herrera allowed a two-out single to Miguel Cabrera, but no damage was done. He has yet to be scored upon in his 5 2/3 innings of work on the season and owns a scintillating 0.53 WHIP and 8/0 K/BB ratio.
Apr 20 - 9:53 PM

Jake Junis pitched well in Friday's victory over the Tigers, surrendering just two runs on four hits over eight strong innings.

The right-hander struck out four and walked one in the contest. He allowed a run-scoring single to Jose Iglesias in the third inning and a sacrifice fly in the seventh, that was the extent of the damage. Now 3-1 on the season, he'll carry a terrific 2.03 ERA and 0.75 WHIP into Thursday's start against the White Sox.
Apr 20 - 9:49 PM

JaCoby Jones had a solid night at the plate in the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader as well, going 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored in a losing effort.

After serving as the hero in Game 1 on Friday, Jones tripled, scored a run and drove in another with a sacrifice fly in Game 2. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to lead the Tigers to victory and they had to settle for a split. He's now hitting .313/.395/.500 on the year and should continue to see increased playing time.
Apr 20 - 9:49 PM

Daniel Norris pitched well in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday, allowing just one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings of work.

The left-hander walked three and struck out five on the night. He was one out away from firing five shutout innings until Whit Merrifield's solo shot with two outs in the fifth. He'll likely head back to the bullpen now, but should remain the first man up the next time the need for a spot starter arises in Detroit.
Apr 20 - 9:46 PM

Trey Mancini was removed from Friday's game against the Indians with a right knee injury.

Mancini was sliding while trying to catch a foul ball and slammed his knee into the left field wall. The good news, is that he was able to walk off the field under his own power. He'll head for further evaluation. Expect an update from the team on his status after the game.
Apr 20 - 9:40 PM

Justin Turner (wrist) was able to hit off of a tee for the first time on Friday.

It's a step in the right direction for Turner, though manager Dave Roberts said that there's still no clear timetable for a potential return to the Dodgers. At this point, it seems like mid-May is a fair estimate barring any setbacks.
