Making a triumphant return to Kansas City, Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks in the Brewers' 5-2 victory over the Royals on Tuesday.

Eric Hosmer was the face of the franchise, but Cain was the best player the Royals lost over the winter. He's hitting .316 with three homers, 15 walks and 16 runs scored in 22 games for the Brewers.

Zach Davies pitched six innings of two-run ball in defeating the Royals on Tuesday.

Davies had an 8.24 ERA in his first four starts last year before going on a nice run for two months. He had a 6.75 ERA in his first three starts this year before consecutive strong outings against the Reds and Royals. Of course, those are awfully weak opponents, but it still seems like a good sign.

Jonathan Villar is batting .300 after going 3-for-4 with a run scored on Tuesday.

Villar isn't an everyday guy yet, but he is the Brewers' preferred option at second base with both Eric Sogard and Hernan Perez off to poor starts. That makes him worth trying in mixed leagues, even if he hasn't really gotten it going yet. There are only a handful of players with more stolen base upside than Villar.

Salvador Perez homered in his return from the disabled list Tuesday against the Brewers.

Perez took Zach Davies deep in his second at-bat of the season and is now tied for fifth on the Royals in homers this year.

Blake Treinen has been diagnosed with a bruised right shin.

Treinen took a 105 mph line drive off the shin in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's win over the Rangers and hobbled off the field, but A's manager Bob Melvin said he expects his closer to be fine after Thursday's off day. Santiago Casilla earned his first save of the season Tuesday with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Apr 24 - 11:30 PM

Andrew Triggs limited the Rangers to one run over six innings in winnings Tuesday.

Triggs was lit up by the White Sox last time out, but he's allowed one or two runs in four of his five starts this year. He should remain a useful AL-only pitcher going forward.
Apr 24 - 11:29 PM

After Blake Treinen got hurt, Santiago Casilla pitched a perfect ninth for his first save Tuesday.

The A's weren't far away from cutting Casilla this spring and he opened the season in a mop-up role, but he came through tonight while pitching with a lead for the first time in six appearances this year. It's possible that he'll get more save chances if Treinen lands on the DL, though Ryan Buchter would also seem to be a possibility there. Fortunately, it seems more likely that Treinen will be OK.
Apr 24 - 11:27 PM

Cole Hamels dropped to 1-4 after allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday against the A's.

Hamels allowed two runs or fewer for the third time in six starts. His stuff has degraded, so at this point, two runs for six innings is about the best anyone should hope for when he starts. He can keep his team in games, but with such a mediocre team around him, it's not going to get him many wins.
