Ricky Nolasco held the Athletics to a lone run over 5 2/3 innings in a win Thursday.

Nolasco gave up just three hits and walked two while striking out four in the contest. It was the third time in five outings he's fallen short of a quality start, but he's been close in two others, including Thursday. It's not anything to write home about, but a positive takeaway, at least. In total, Nolasco is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, and he'll try to improve on those numbers Wednesday at the Mariners.

Chris Owings did it all Thursday, homering twice and stealing a base to help the Diamondbacks down the Padres 6-2.

Owings hit a pair of solo jacks off batting practice fastba-- er, Padres starter Jered Weaver, popping one in the third inning before doing it again an inning later. He's now among the league leaders in RBI (19) and stolen bases (6), a testament to the kind of all-around month the 25-year-old is having. Owings is batting .325/.365/.550 with four homers and 12 runs to boot. Add him where you can.

Ryan Schimpf hit his fifth home run of the season in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Schimpf punished a Taijuan Walker offering for the solo blast in the seventh inning. The occasional homer may not be enough to save the 29-year-old, who is hitting just .125/.284/.359 to go with those five homers. Perhaps he'll continue to start for a bad Padres club, but fantasy owners can do better.

Yasmany Tomas went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a two-run homer in a win over the Padres on Thursday.

Tomas hit the two-run shot off Padres starter Jered Weaver in the fourth inning before knocking the RBI double in the sixth. The homer was his fifth of the season, giving Tomas 18 RBI and 12 runs scored in 21 games. The bat-first left fielder is hitting .308/.337/.615 overall.

Jered Weaver allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Weaver gave up three homers in this one, as Chase Field and fly ball pitchers are a bad combination. He allowed six hits and walked two while striking out just one overall. The start was his worst as a member of the Padres, but the club is actually 0-5 in Weaver's five starts this year. The 34-year-old will carry a 4.71 ERA and 1.08 WHIP into Wednesday's dangerous matchup with the Rockies.

Taijuan Walker struck out 11 while allowing two runs over eight innings in a win over the Padres on Thursday.

Walker had everything working, turning in easily his best start as a member of the Diamondbacks. Facing the Padres helps, too. The right-hander allowed just four hits without issuing a walk, running his record to 3-1 with a 3.94 ERA through five starts overall. One bright spot is his 33/7 K/BB ratio in those 29 2/3 innings of work. Walker will face a much stiffer test Wednesday when the D'backs face the Nationals in the nation's capital.

Dexter Fowler went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored as the Cardinals swept Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

The Cardinals put up runs in each of the first four innings, with Fowler's homer off Jays starter Casey Lawrence coming in the second. The homer was his third of the year and gives his 15 runs scored in 21 games. He went 5-for-9 on the day and seven hits in his last 14 at-bats with three extra-base hits, suggesting he may be breaking out of an early season slump that has his line at .224/.295/.388 through 21 games.
Apr 27 - 11:58 PM

Kendrys Morales hit a three-run home run in a loss to the Cardinals in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.

After sitting out the early game, Morales got the start at first base and jumped on an Adam Wainwright pitch in the fifth inning for the three-run jack. It was his only hit in four at-bats in the game. Morales now has four homers and 14 RBI on the year, but a disappointing .235/.293/.400 line to go with it. His struggles are indicative of the Jays' offensive struggles as a whole through April.
