Victor Martinez (knee) is scheduled to arrive to Tigers spring training camp on Monday.

He's currently recovering from surgery earlier in the month to repair the medial meniscus in his left knee, but could still be ready for the start of the regular season. Martinez indicated that he may swing a bat and take soft toss as early as Monday.

Alex Avila (back) was held out of workouts for a second consecutive day on Saturday due to tightness in his back.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus noted that Avila was feeling better on Saturday and that he would be shocked if the veteran backstop didn't return on Sunday. While he's considered day-to-day, it's a situation worth monitoring as back injuries can tend to be of the recurring variety.

Daniel Nava has been hitting exclusively from the left side of the plate this spring and is considering giving up switch-hitting.

Nava has had significantly more success as a left-handed hitter so the idea certainly has merit. He has been putting in extra time to work from his strong side against left-handed pitching to see if his approach could work. With a career .209/.287/.298 slash from the right-side, it won't take much to notice an improvement.

Ronald Belisario will be shut down for the next two weeks due to a fractured left shoulder.

Belisario sustained the injury in an accident before he arrived to Rays' camp. The good news is that it's his non-throwing shoulder, though any missed time this spring could hurt his chances of making the Opening Day roster.

Gorkys Hernandez is expected to arrive to Pirates' camp on Saturday.

The non-roster invitee has been delayed a couple of days by visa issues. The 27-year-old will be competing for a reserve outfielder role with the Pirates this spring but offers little in the way of fantasy relevance.
Feb 28 - 9:07 AM

Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports that Ronald Belisario was seen in the Rays clubhouse with his left arm in a sling.

It's the veteran hurler's non-throwing arm, but could still be potentially concerning. No word yet on what any potential injury may be, but any missed time this spring could hurt the non-roster invitee's chances of cracking the bullpen on Opening Day.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe believes that Clay Buchholz will be tabbed as the Red Sox starter on Opening Day.

While Red Sox manager John Farrell generally waits until late in the spring to officially announce the honor, it may be telling that Buchholz will make his spring debut on Tuesday, potentially lining him up for Opening Day on April 6 against the Phillies. The veteran right-hander is the only member of the rotation who was with the team on Opening Day last season.

Khris Davis indicated Friday that he's working to improve his overall plate discipline, getting back to the approach that made him successful in the minor leagues.

Davis admitted his over-aggressiveness led to struggles during his first full season, "I was a little eager, wanting to please too much, too early. I found out I'm human." As the 2014 season progressed, Davis became more impatient at the dish and his numbers suffered. Still, the 27-year-old slashed .244/.299/.457 with 22 homers and 69 RBI in 144 games and could be poised for an even bigger year in 2015 if he can indeed improve his discipline.
