Masahiro Tanaka gave up three runs in six innings, earning his eighth win of the season in Tuesday's 13-3 rout of the Red Sox.

The Yankees exploded for nine runs in the seventh inning, which removed any doubt that Tanaka would leave with a win. The right-hander gave up five hits and a walk while striking out three. He hasn't been nearly as dominant as he was last year, but that's to be expected considering his injury woes. Tanaka will bring a 3.84 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 87/19 K/BB ratio over 93 2/3 innings into a home start against the Blue Jays.

Mets acquired LHP Eric O'Flaherty and cash considerations from the Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later.

O'Flaherty was designated for assignment by the A's last weekend but has landed on his feet quickly. The left-hander hasn't been the same pitcher since all the injuries hit, as his 5.91 ERA in 25 games for Oakland this year can attest. He can still get lefties out, though, having held them to a .186/.286/.209 batting line this season. O'Flaherty is taking Alex Torres' spot in the bullpen.

Ruben Tejada went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a win over the Marlins on Tuesday.

Tejada's RBI single in the sixth inning tied the score, and the Mets eventually won the game. The RBI was just his second since July 21 and 20th overall. The light-hitting shortstop is batting .255/.322/.341 overall.

Henry Owens lost his Red Sox debut against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing three runs in five innings.

All things considered, it wasn't a bad debut. He allowed an RBI single to Mark Teixeira in the first inning, then kept the Yankees off the board until the fifth. Overall, Owens yielded five hits and a walk while striking out five. The lefty is slated to face the Tigers on the road in his next start.

Tigers optioned RHP Jose Valdez to Triple-A Toledo.

He's clearing way for Matt Boyd, who will be called up on Wednesday to make his major league debut. Valdez allowed two runs without recording an out in his lone appearance with the big club.

Lucas Duda went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.

The multi-hit game was Duda's fourth in his last seven games. The good stretch has his line up to .248/.349/.483 with 21 homers and 50 RBI.

Chris Young filled up the box score as the Yankees routed the Red Sox on Tuesday, finishing 3-for-4.

Young walked, homered, knocked in three runs, and scored four runs. He drilled a three-run home run in the seventh inning, capping off a nine-run seventh inning which brought the Yankees' lead to 13-3. Young has once again served as an important semi-regular bat for the Yankees, hitting .268/.325/.500 with 13 home runs and 36 RBI in 271 plate appearances.
Aug 4 - 10:43 PM

Brian McCann went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a three-run home run as the Yankees routed the Red Sox on Tuesday.

McCann doubled in the second of three sixth-inning runs, then slugged his three-run homer as part of a nine-run outburst in the seventh. The catcher has gone yard three times in his last five games, bringing him to 18 on the season with 65 RBI and a .255/.325/.477 batting line.
