Cubs signed RHP Ben Rowen to a minor league contract.
Rowen recently opted out of his minor league deal with the Orioles after posting a 2.41 ERA with 24 strikeouts over 37 1/3 innings. He'll give the Cubs some relief depth.
Braves RHP prospect Touki Toussaint hurled five shutout innings Saturday in a win for Low-A Rome.
The game was called in the sixth inning because of rain. 34 of his 57 pitches went for strikes. Saturday was Toussaint's first win as a member of the Braves organization. The 2014 first-round pick was acquired from Arizona last month. Opponents have hit just .200 against the right-hander in 48 1/3 innings this season.
Adam Lind went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games on Sunday versus the Reds.
Lind has knocked in a run in each of his last nine ballgames, homering four times with five multi-hit games in that span of time. On Sunday, he gave the Brewers some insurance with an RBI single in the fifth inning, then homered in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Reds. Lind is batting a productive .298/.373/.518 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI on the year.
Rangers optioned INF Hanser Alberto to Triple-A Round Rock.
Alberto hit .247/.267/.301 across 25 games for the big club. He could get another shot at some point in the second half.
Rangers activated OF Delino DeShields from the 15-day disabled list.
DeShields is back from his hamstring injury after completing a six-game rehab assignment. With Josh Hamilton's (groin) status up in the air, he could wind up playing a lot in left field.
Starling Marte exited Sunday's game against the Indians with discomfort in his left side.
The Pirates don't want to provide a definitive diagnosis until Marte is re-evaluated on Monday. The fear, obviously, is that he's suffered a strained oblique, which would surely require a trip to the disabled list. More will be known about Marte on Monday.
White Sox RHP prospect Yency Almonte lost a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning Saturday in a win for Low-A Annapolis.
He finished with 11 groundouts and six strikeouts. Saturday was the longest outing of his career. The 21-year-old right-hander has now won seven of his last nine starts with a 2.78 ERA. Almonte was acquired from the Angels in February in the deal that sent Gordon Beckham to Los Angeles.
Rays RHP prospect Jacob Faria tossed seven hitless innings Saturday in a win for Double-A Montgomery.
Jared Mortensen took over for Faria in the eighth inning and lost the no-hitter five pitches later. Faria's 14 strikeouts were a career-high. It also matched the team record set by Mitch Talbot in 2006. Saturday marked the right-hander's second start in Double-A after beginning the year with High-A Charlotte. Faria is now 11-1 with a 1.34 ERA in 14 appearances.
