Indians optioned LHP Michael Roth to Triple-A Columbus.
Roth was up for nearly a week but didn't make an appearance. Kyle Crockett has assumed his spot in the bullpen.
Indians recalled INF Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Columbus.
Ramirez lost his shortstop job when Francisco Lindor was promoted but should see some time at second base while Jason Kipnis (shoulder) is out. He's hit only .176/.243/.235 in the majors this season.
Indians placed 2B Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 2, with right shoulder inflammation.
Kipnis tried playing through the ailment for a few days, receiving starts in the designated hitter spot, but the club has decided it's best to go ahead and shut him down for a while. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Jose Ramirez has taken his spot on the roster and should see some time at second base along with Mike Aviles while Kipnis is sidelined.
Angels recalled RHP Cam Bedrosian from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Bedrosian has big stuff but has struggled in his time in the majors this season, posting a 4.60 ERA with 10 walks over 15 2/3 innings. He'll work in middle relief.
Angels optioned RHP Drew Rucinski to Triple-A Salt Lake.
He gets the boot after allowing two runs in just one-third of an inning in his lone relief appearance. Cam Bedrosian is taking Rucinski's spot in the bullpen.
Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Monday.
It's a rare day off for the slugger. C.J. Cron is at first base in Pujols' place, while David Murphy is in the designated hitter spot.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Kyle Lohse will remain in the club's rotation "as of now."
Counsell said Sunday that the organization would discuss Lohse's status and apparently they've decided to leave him in the starting five for the time being. "Kyle’s still in the rotation," Counsell said. "Kyle’s pitching Friday night as of now." Lohse holds an ugly 6.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP on the season and is on thin ice, to say the least.
Robinson Chirinos received a cortisone injection in his ailing left shoulder Monday.
Chirinos was placed on the disabled list over the weekend and the hope is that the injection speeds along the healing process. For now, there's no timetable for his return.
