Jonathan Villar doubled in two runs, walked and stole a base Monday against the Angels.

Villar has five steals in five games, raising his season total to seven. He's doing a great job of getting on base for the Brewers, and it now seems pretty likely that he'll remain a regular once Orlando Arcia gets the call, probably at third base.

Matt Adams singled, ripped a solo homer and scored a pair of runs in Monday's win over the Phillies.

Adams had one of five longballs on the night for the Cardinals, as he joined Kolten Wong, Aledmys Diaz, Randal Grichuk and Adam Wainwright in going deep. He's homered twice in his last four games and is suddenly sporting a nice .280/.345/.500 batting line after his mini hot streak. Adams will continue to fight for playing time at first base with Brandon Moss.

Mike Trout finished 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in a losing cause Monday against Milwaukee.

After something of a slow start, Trout is close to his typical pace now. He's sitting at .313/.396/.563 with six homers and 18 RBI in 26 games.
May 2 - 11:43 PM

Johnny Giavotella went 0-for-4 on Monday and is hitting just .169/.183/.237 in 59 at-bats.

The Angels are certainly regretting never bringing in any real competition for Giavotella over the winter. He'll bounce back some offensively, but once defense is factored in, he's still not going to be a very good regular.

Kolten Wong finally notched his first extra-base hit of the season Monday, smacking a two-run homer in Monday's win over the Phillies.

Wong looked awful in striking out in his first two plate appearances, but he scorched the ball on a lineout to center field in his third at-bat and then went deep in his fourth trip to the dish. He's got an ugly .233/.304/.283 batting line on the season, but perhaps this will get Wong going.
May 2 - 11:39 PM

Carlos Ruiz's surprising start to the season continued Monday, as he went 3-for-4 at the plate in a loss to the Cardinals.

Ruiz grounded out in his first at-bat but then singled, doubled and singled in his next three trips to the dish. The veteran catcher is second on the depth chart behind Cameron Rupp, but he's earned more time than he was probably supposed to receive with a .341/.413/.634 start to the season.
May 2 - 11:35 PM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said after Monday's game that Domingo Santana developed some tightness in the lat area behind his right shoulder.

Santana was a late scratch from Monday's lineup. The Brewers will see how he feels on Tuesday before updating his status.
May 2 - 11:33 PM

Jason Hammel moved to 4-0 after allowing two runs across five innings in Monday's 7-2 victory over the Pirates.

Hammel was pulled after hitting Starling Marte with a pitch to lead off the sixth inning, marking the first time in five starts that he didn't go six frames. It was still another solid showing, though, and Hammel now sports a microscopic 1.24 ERA on the season. He'll try to keep it going against the Nationals at home over the weekend.
