Deven Marrero delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th as the Red Sox edged the Rays 3-2 on Sunday.

Marrero also drove in a run with a groundout his first time up. Known for his glove, Marrero, a 2012 first-round pick, is batting .308 in 26 at-bats. He'll be Triple-A Pawtucket's shortstop this year, and he'll probably be the choice to step in for the Red Sox if Xander Bogaerts gets hurt at any point.

Cardinals reassigned 1B Xavier Scruggs, INF Jacob Wilson and C Ed Easley to minor league camp.

With this round of cuts, the Cardinals have trimmed their big league camp to 33 players. Scruggs could have competed for a bench spot with a strong showing in the spring, but hit just .192 (5-for-26) in his limited time.

Brad Boxberger got the start for the Rays against the Red Sox on Sunday and retired Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz in the order.

Boxberger was originally scheduled to work later in the game in what was a bullpen day for the Rays, but he requested the chance to face the top of the lineup. Boxberger has allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings this spring. He'd seem to be the favorite for saves in the Tampa Bay pen while Jake McGee is out. However, it doesn't sound like the Rays will name a closer.
Mar 29 - 5:40 PM

Shane Victorino went 0-for-3 and failed to rundown a catchable fly into shallow right Sunday against the Rays.

Fortunately, the runner on first figured the ball would be caught, and Victorino was able to throw him out at second. Still, Victorino has been thoroughly unimpressive this spring as he attempts to rebound from an injury-filled 2014. Rusney Castillo made a terrific play in right field after replacing Victorino today and also singled and scored the winning run in the 10th. Both Castillo and Jackie Bradley Jr. have looked better than Victorino in camp, and if Victorino isn't going to show flashes of his old range, Allen Craig and Daniel Nava might be superior right field options as well.

Cardinals optioned INF Dean Anna to Triple-A Memphis.

The 28-year-old was expected to secure a reserve infielder job on the team's Opening Day roster, but hit a paltry .200 (4-for-20) with no homers and three RBI in Grapefruit League play. He'll function as organizational depth at Triple-A, and should be called upon at some point during the season.
Mar 29 - 5:38 PM

Jung Ho Kang delivered a two-run homer and an RBI single in the Pirates' 4-2 win over the Braves on Sunday.

The homer was Kang's first since March 3, when he took Marco Estrada deep in his second at-bat of the spring. The Pirates will carry him as a backup at shortstop and second base. He'll also likely add third base to his arsenal as time goes on.
Mar 29 - 5:34 PM

Stolmy Pimentel got the start against the Braves on Sunday and threw two scoreless innings.

With Jeff Locke, Radhames Liz and Arquimedes Caminero all also out of options and likely in line for bullpen spots, Pimentel might find himself on waivers later this week. He'd almost certainly be picked up by a team looking for an arm with upside, but the Pirates have enough depth that they can afford to move on. The rest of their options are all better bets to help the team this year.
Mar 29 - 5:31 PM

Shelby Miller allowed just one run and one hit through six innings Sunday against the Pirates.

Miller opened the spring with a 108.00 ERA, so getting all of the way down to his current 3.44 is quite an accomplishment. He's allowed three runs over 18 innings in his last four starts.
