Koa Misi will be the Dolphins' starting strong-side linebacker this season.
The Fins wanted high-end athlete Chris McCain to earn the gig, but he couldn't cut it. Misi is moving from middle linebacker, where two-down thumper Kelvin Sheppard has taken over. We suspect the Dolphins' two nickel backers will be Misi and WLB Jelani Jenkins, though they could also just use one linebacker in the majority of subpackages and insert an extra defensive back.
Browns RB Duke Johnson (concussion) is sidelined for Thursday's preseason finale.
Johnson was concussed last Saturday. He's likely to remain in the league's concussion protocol for at least another 2-3 days. The third rounder should be ready for next Sunday's opener, but it's not a guarantee. The Browns' first official practice report comes out in six days.
Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) is active for Thursday's preseason finale, but will come off the bench.
Pryor is expected to be "limited" as a reserve. He shouldn't get more than a token series or two. If Pryor makes the 53-man roster, it will be because he was just that good in the offseason program. He's seen next to no live action since the start of training camp.
Devonta Freeman (hamstring) is sitting out Thursday's preseason finale.
Freeman would probably be suiting up were it the regular season, but the Falcons don't want to risk a setback. Rookie Tevin Coleman is playing, but shouldn't see more than a few series. Freeman and Coleman are barreling toward a Week 1 timeshare, with neither looking like a viable FLEX option.
Bucs WR Kenny Bell (hamstring) is sitting out Thursday's preseason finale.
It appears to be just a day-to-day injury for the fifth rounder, but he's losing ground in his quest for No. 3 duties behind Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson. Even if he's healthy, Bell could end up a scratch for Week 1 if he's not in good enough shape.
Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is sitting out Thursday's preseason finale.
It's a sign the No. 20 overall pick has secured his status as Philly's No. 2 receiver. Agholor puts a bow on the preseason the owner of nine catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. He's a legitimate WR3.
Alshon Jeffery (calf) was spotted playing catch before Thursday's preseason finale.
Jeffery obviously won't be playing on Thursday night, but it's apparently the first time he's been spotted by reporters in over a week. Coach John Fox is guarding Jeffery's status like the nuclear codes, but we'd be surprised if he wasn't ready for the opener in 10 days.
Zach Ertz (groin surgery) remains unsure of his Week 1 status.
Ertz said he's feeling better every day, but that his status for the opener could come down to a game-time decision. It's a massive disappointment for a player who has breakout potential this season. Ertz was already going to have trouble weaning Chip Kelly off of Brent Celek, but now Celek could establish a stranglehold on starting duties. Ertz is worth keeping around as an upside bench option, but his TE1 candidacy is on thin ice.
