Chris Davis homered, walked twice and struck out twice against the Tigers on Thursday.

The homer was just Davis's second in 62 at-bats and 73 plate appearances this year. He's hitting .148, and he's scored a total of three runs. He can't help but get better than this, but he's looking more and more done as a particularly useful player in mixed leagues.

Eric Thames is not in the Brewers' lineup Thursday against the Marlins.

Ryan Braun (calf) remains out of the Brewers' lineup Thursday against the Marlins.

Maikel Franco is not in the Phillies' lineup Thursday against the Pirates.

Instead, Scott Kingery is starting at third base and batting sixth against Bucs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Franco isn't hurt, so it appears he's just getting a breather. The 25-year-old leads the team with 17 RBI, though he's batting only .220 through 50 at-bats this year.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Josh Donaldson (shoulder) "felt great" after throwing on Thursday.

Donaldson is eligible to return from the disabled list this weekend, though Gibbons confirmed Thursday that he needs more time. The former MVP has been battling shoulder issues since spring training. Yangervis Solarte will continue to fill in at third base for Toronto.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expects Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) to miss about three weeks.

Kahnle was placed on the disabled list Tuesday due to tendinitis in his right shoulder and biceps. He'll be in no-throw mode for 10 days before attempting to ramp things back up. The 28-year-old right-hander had struggled to a 6.14 ERA and 9/8 K/BB ratio through 7 1/3 innings this season while showing diminished zip on his fastball.

Freddie Freeman (wrist) is starting at first base and hitting third Thursday night against the Mets.

Freeman took a pitch off his left wrist on Wednesday -- the same wrist he fractured last season -- but tests came back negative for any fractures and he has talked his way into the lineup for Thursday's series opener versus the Mets. What a gamer.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Clint Frazier is working out "full-bore" with High-A Tampa.

It sounds like he'll start playing in some real games soon. Frazier suffered a concussion in late February and battled lingering symptoms for several weeks, but he seems to be past all of that now. The 23-year-old outfielder will likely be stationed at Triple-A/Scranton-Wilkes-Barre before the end of the month.
