Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers and Athletics discussed a trade involving Jesse Chavez over the offseason.

They could wind up revisiting the talks, as the A's have baseball's worst record and the Dodgers are in need of rotation help following season-ending injuries to Brandon McCarthy (elbow) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder). Chavez began the season in Oakland's bullpen but joined the rotation late last month and has posted a 2.89 ERA and 41/13 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings. The Dodgers are also known to have engaged in trade discussions with the Phillies over the winter regarding Cole Hamels, so it's possible they'll try to reel in a bigger fish than Chavez.

Marco Gonzales will not make his next scheduled start for Triple-A Memphis due to renewed discomfort in his pectoral/shoulder area.

Gonzales whiffed seven over six innings of one-run ball in his last outing, but he's evidently felt more discomfort since then. It's not clear at this point how big of a setback it might be or if he might be set to undergo an MRI. Gonzales first began feeling soreness in mid-April.

Jayson Werth's left wrist remains too swollen to allow him to resume baseball activities.

"They’re treating him aggressively," Nationals Manager Matt Williams said. "It’s multiple rounds of treatment every day. The problem is if the swelling gets in the joint, then it can be really stiff and if you start going at it hard, it just exacerbates the problem. We gotta calm it down first before we can get back at it." Werth is eligible for activation from the disabled list in a week, but it's looking unlikely that he'll be ready at that time. A clearer timetable for his return obviously won't be known until he's given the green light to resume swinging a bat.
