Yankees claimed RHP Layne Somsen off waivers from the Reds; reassigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Somsen has made two appearances with the Reds this season and owns a 1.89 ERA and 19/7 K/BB ratio over 19 innings in Triple-A. The 26-year-old will function as bullpen depth in the minors.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Carlos Beltran can block trades to 15 teams under his limited no-trade clause.

There's nothing to indicate that the Yankees will be sellers -- the club has played a bit better of late -- but a trade could be a possibility if they end up falling out of the race. The Indians, Nationals, Royals, Cardinals, Rays, Tigers and Dodgers are among the teams Beltran can be traded to without his permission. Beltran, 39, is batting .274 with nine home runs and an .822 OPS over 43 games this season. He's due to become a free agent after the season.

Marlins 1B prospect Josh Naylor drilled two homers Monday in a win for Low-A Greensboro.

Naylor had been two for his last 18 prior to Monday's outburst. Three of his six homers this year have come in the last seven games. Naylor is now tied for fourth in the South Atlantic League with 29 RBI. The 18-year-old is nowhere near a finished product but the Marlins have to impressed with how he's played early in his career.

Jason Heyward (ribs) has returned to the Cubs' starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

This confirms what Cubs manager Joe Maddon said during a radio appearance Tuesday. Heyward ended up missing three starts due to a contusion on his right side. The 26-year-old is batting just .225/.329/.282 through his first 37 games this season. He'll bat second against his former team on Tuesday.

Jung Ho Kang (hand) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

Kang missed back-to-back starts after leaving Saturday's game with a jammed left hand, but he's feeling better now. He'll bat cleanup against right-hander Shelby Miller.

Orioles LHP prospect John Means fanned eight hitters over seven shutout frames Monday in a win for High-A Frederick.

Means surrendered three hits (all singles) and a walk while throwing 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old is undefeated in nine starts this year with a dazzling 1.80 ERA. He now ranks second in the Carolina League with 54 strikeouts. Means went 0-3 with a disappointing 6.41 ERA in four starts for the Keys last season but has fared much better this time around.

Francisco Cervelli is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

It's a routine day of maintenance. Chris Stewart will start behind the dish and catch Francisco Liriano.

Padres OF prospect Alex Dickerson delivered a three-run homer in a pinch-hitting appearance Monday in a win for Triple-A El Paso.

The home run extended Dickerson's hitting streak to 21 games. That's the second-longest streak in the minors this year behind Red Sox prospect Andrew Benintendi, who produced a 23-game streak from April 11-May 6. The 25-year collected two hits in 10 at-bats during a two-week stay in San Diego earlier this year. Since returning to Triple-A on May 14, Dickerson has hit a remarkable .571 with four homers and 14 RBI.
