Red Sox recalled C Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket.

He'll provide catching depth while David Ross is out. Lavarnway has two hits in eight at-bats for the Red Sox this season.

Red Sox recalled RHP Alex Wilson from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wilson holds a 2.61 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 17 appearances with the Sox this season. He could be sent back down on Saturday when the team needs a starter.
Jun 18 - 8:26 PM

Red Sox placed C David Ross on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.

Ross is having a recurrence of concussion symptoms that originally started back in mid-May. He should be considered out indefinitely. Ryan Lavarnway has been recalled to provide depth behind the plate.
Jun 18 - 8:24 PM

Red Sox placed RHP Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9, with a strained neck.

Buchholz was able to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, but evidently he's still not feeling well enough to make his start on Saturday. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out. The Red Sox are expected to call up Allen Webster or Rubby De La Rosa to start over the weekend.
Jun 18 - 8:20 PM

Chris Perez (shoulder) allowed three homers and five runs in an inning of work in his second rehab appearance with Double-A Akron.

Perez gave up five hits overall and also hit a batter. The right-hander was supposed to be activated from the disabled list on Friday, but the Indians might re-think that after tonight's showing. Vinnie Pestano owners should hang on to him.
Jun 18 - 7:55 PM

Clay Buchholz (neck) was able to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's a good sign that he'll be able to avoid the disabled list and start on Saturday in Detroit. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status later Tuesday or Wednesday. If Buchholz can't go, Allen Webster or Rubby De La Rosa would likely get the ball.
Jun 18 - 7:51 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and three runs scored as the Red Sox beat the Rays 5-1 in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Ellsbury didn't steal any bases, but that's OK; he's batting .347 with 10 steals and 12 runs scored in 11 games this month. He'll be in center field again for the nightcap versus the Rays.
Jun 18 - 7:47 PM

Alfredo Aceves pitched five innings of one-run ball for a victory in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.

Aceves was at just 75 pitches when the rains came and ended his outing. He walked three today, all in the second inning. That was when the run scored, too. Other than that, he was excellent for the third straight start. Whether he'll get another one anytime soon is up in the air.
