Tigers acquired LHP David Price in a three-team trade with the Rays and Mariners.

Detroit shipped LHP Drew Smyly and SS Willy Adames to the Rays, and OF Austin Jackson to the Mariners, which sent SS Nick Franklin to Tampa Bay. It's a master stroke by gutsy Tigers' GM Dave Dombrowski, who watched rivals arguably overpay for frontline starting pitching throughout the week and then swooped in at the very last second to steal Price for far less than his expected, ahem, price tag. Price now leads a rotation which includes Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and Rick Porcello, and is protected from injury by top prospect Robbie Ray. If Verlander can return to form, Detroit will have a rotation on par with anything we've seen in the last few decades.

Abraham Almonte is scheduled to join the Padres on Friday.

Almonte was acquired from the Mariners on Thursday as part of the Chris Denorfia deal. It's not clear what role him play out of the gate, as the Padres have a number of options, but he could be relevant in NL-only leagues depending on how things play out.

According to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, Matt Cain does not have any damage in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.

It was easy to fear the worst when it was reported that Cain was scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews, but it appears that he has avoided the worst-case scenario. Still, apparently he's dealing with "loose bodies" in the elbow and the Giants are discussing how to proceed. There should be more clarity on his status soon, but it doesn't look like he'll be pitching for the Giants in the near future.

Braves designated RHP Luis Vasquez for assignment.

More housecleaning for the Braves after Thursday's deadline deal with the Cubs. Vasquez, 28, has been limited to 11 appearances this year in Triple-A and could pass through waivers.

Indians optioned INF Zach Walters to Triple-A Columbus.

Cleveland acquired Walters from the Nationals for Asdrubal Cabrera earlier in the day. Instead of giving Walters an immediate shot at Cabrera's old at-bats, the Tribe will roll with Mike Aviles at shortstop for now. Aviles won't hold Walters off for long. The 24-year-old switch-hitter boasts a .820 OPS in 887 plate appearances over the past three seasons at Triple-A.

Braves transferred RHP Gavin Floyd from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for the Braves' new additions. Floyd underwent season-ending surgery in June to repair a fractured olecranon in his right elbow.

Indians recalled RHP Austin Adams from Triple-A Columbus.

In light of the Justin Masterson trade, the Indians bring back Adams to function as an additional arm in the bullpen. The 27-year-old has been excellent this year at Triple-A, but will only be entrusted with low-leverage situations in the bigs.

C.J. Wilson (ankle, hip) is penciled in to rejoin the Angels' rotation Saturday against the Rays.

Wilson has been sidelined since early July with a right ankle sprain and hip tightness, but he made it through a minor league rehab start Monday with no issues. The 33-year-old southpaw owns a 4.33 ERA and 107/48 K/BB ratio in 116 1/3 innings this season, but there's reason to expect better if he's back to full health.
