Yahoo! Sports Charles Robinson reports the Cowboys believe Darren McFadden is the "best of the bunch."

Aug 30 - 7:29 PM

According to Yahoo's Charles Robinson, the Cowboys' plan to use an RBBC backfield is "not a bluff," and the rotation will be a "committee in the purest NFL form."

Per Robinson, "the Cowboys are adamant that their elite offensive line can be the glue that elevates a collection of parts into a greater whole." In other words, the Cowboys are banking on their O-Line and less on the talent of their backfield, which is questionable to be kind with Joe Randle, Darren McFadden, and Lance Dunbar vying for work. Had Saturday night's preseason game been a regular season one, Robinson believes the Cowboys "would have ridden McFadden's hot hand," despite Randle starting the game. Robinson guesses none of the Cowboys' backs will rush for more than 850 yards this season.

Texans third-round pick Jaelen Strong caught five balls for 40 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's third preseason game.

Strong got work with the Brian Hoyer offense, but primarily ran with the second-team receiver rotation opposite fellow rookie Keith Mumphery. Strong used his size and strength to battle when Ryan Mallett entered the game, hooking up with Mallett on a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Strong is behind DeAndre Hopkins, Cecil Shorts, and apparently Nate Washington on the depth chart, but should ascend as the season moves along. Through three preseason weeks, Strong has seven catches for 55 yards and two TDs.

Vikings waived WR DaVaris Daniels, CB Justin Coleman, CB Jalil Carter, OT Stephen Goodin, LB Josh Kaddu, WR Jordan Leslie, DE Caesar Rayford, DT Chrishon Rose, and CB Demarcus Van Dyke.

In addition to RB Joe Banyard and TE Brandon Bostick, these are the Vikings' first cuts. Daniels went undrafted this past May out of Notre Dame.

Titans WR Justin Hunter has caught 2-of-9 targets (22 percent) this preseason.

It is a very small sample size, but it is a concern considering Hunter has caught a Stephen-Hill like 43 percent of his targets through two seasons. Hunter has reportedly shown well in training camp this season, but that improvement has yet to be seen in games. Hunter will struggle to find the field if he cannot become more consistent.

Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz was held catch-less in Sunday night's third preseason game.

Although Fiedorowicz stayed quiet in the passing game, it's noteworthy that he started and was a clear member of Houston's first-team offense. Fiedorowicz was an early third-round pick in the 2014 draft. The Texans need a complementary pass catcher to step up beyond DeAndre Hopkins. Fiedorowicz stayed on with the Ryan Mallett group and saw an end-zone target, but Mallett's throw was too far wide. Through three preseason contests, Fiedorowicz has two catches for 12 yards.

Saints WR Willie Snead caught four balls for 56 yards in Sunday night's third preseason game.

Snead was the chain-moving receiver during Luke McCown's time on the field, running with the second-team offense opposite Brandon Coleman. Snead has been a ball-catching machine in Saints practices, according to beat reporters, and through three preseason games is up to an 8-117 receiving line. Snead stands 5-foot-11, 195, but ran 4.62 coming out of Ball State in 2014. He failed to make the 53-man roster in Browns camp last year. The Saints reportedly see some Lance Moore in Snead's skill set.

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks (legal) is not expected to practice this week.

Brooks was sent home from joint practices with the Broncos last week and missed the third preseason game after being indicted on misdemeanor sexual battery charges. GM Trent Baalke released a statement saying Brooks would miss the preseason game, but he did not elaborate on his future with the team. Coach Jim Tomsula called the situation "day to day."
