Angels pitching prospect Nate Smith tossed six scoreless innings Tuesday for Double-A Arkansas.

It wasn't the prettiest outing. Smith allowed 11 baserunners (seven hits, four walks) but he stranded them all, finishing the night with six strikeouts. The workhorse left-hander leads the Texas League in both strikeouts (58) and innings pitched (63). Tuesday was his first scoreless outing since April.

Hector Gomez left Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals with an apparent head injury.

It was a scary looking situation, as Gomez hit a side wall at full speed while chasing a pop-up and launched himself into the stands head-first. He eventually got to his feet and walked off on his own, but it seems likely that the Brewers will put him through possible concussion tests.

Denard Span (knee) is back in the Nationals' lineup Wednesday.

Span hadn't played since leaving Sunday's game with renewed discomfort in his right knee, but he's feeling ready to give it a go. The outfielder is batting .314/.356/.504 for the Nats this season.

Christian Yelich is absent from the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.

It appears to just be a day of rest. Ichiro Suzuki is handling left field in Yelich's absence.

Brewers pitching prospect Jorge Lopez tied a career-high with eight strikeouts Tuesday in a no-decision for Double-A Biloxi.

He scattered three hits over seven shutout frames. It was only the second time this season, the right-hander has not allowed a walk. Lopez got roughed up in his previous outing (4 IP, 9 H, 6 ER May 27 at Charlotte), so it's good to see him get back on track. The 22-year-old is tied for ninth in the Southern League with 51 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings.

Pirates sent RHP Radhames Liz outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. Liz posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over 11 relief appearances for the Pirates before losing his spot on the 40-man roster.

Phillies prospect C Gabriel Lino has been promoted to Triple-A Lehigh from Double-A Reading.

The 22-year-old backstop is moving up to the minor’s highest level after batting .266/.333/.431 with 12 extra-base hits over 32 games in the Eastern League. Lino has made strides at the plate this season but will defense will always be his calling card, as he’s posted an excellent 39% caught-stealing rate in the last three years. The Venezuela native could see time in the major leagues this season in a backup role.

White Sox prospect OF Jacob May has been placed on the 7-day disabled list at Double-A Birmingham with a concussion.

The center fielder suffered the concussion on Tuesday when he collided with shortstop Tim Anderson chasing down a pop up. The 23-year-old has fared well this season in his first taste of the Double-A level, batting .311/.359/.359 with 10 doubles and 25 stolen bases in 52 games. May doesn’t profile as an everyday player in the major leagues, but his contact skills, speed and defensive versatility could make him valuable in a reserve role.
