White Sox activated RHP Javy Guerra from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.
It's a bit of a surprise given Guerra's 2.81 ERA over 45 relief appearances the last two seasons with the White Sox. The veteran reliever could draw some interest on waivers.
Cubs activated RHP Justin Grimm from the 15-day disabled list.
Grimm struck out two over a scoreless inning during his one rehab appearance, and that was apparently enough to convince the Cubs he was ready. He missed the last month with right forearm inflammation.
Cubs recalled OF Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa.
Szczur picked up two hits in just 10 at-bats earlier this season for the Cubs. He'll back up at all three outfield spots.
Cubs designated RHP Anthony Varvaro for assignment.
It's the second time in the last week that Varvaro, who never made an appearance with the Cubs, has been designated for assignment. He could pass through waivers this time.
Rangers prospect Nomar Mazara enjoyed his first four-hit game Tuesday for Double-A Frisco.
He finished a home run shy of the cycle. Mazara is off to a nice start, hitting .313 with ten RBI. Unfortunately, he hasn't shown much power, collecting only three extra-base hits in 83 at-bats. Mazara hasn't even attempted to steal a base this season and only has ten thefts across 332 minor league appearances. Despite obvious flaws, the 20-year-old still possesses an intriguing skill set.
Cubs optioned OF Junior Lake to Triple-A Iowa.
Lake had four hits in 14 at-bats in his brief time with the big club. He returns to a .289/.340/.333 line at Iowa.
Steven Souza is not in the Rays' lineup Wednesday.
It's just a day of rest. Brandon Guyer is in right field for the Rays in Souza's place.
Josh Harrison is hitting seventh for the Pirates in Wednesday's game versus the Reds.
It's the first time this season he's hit anywhere other than first or second. The slumping Harrison has just one hit in his last 23 at-bats and is down to an ugly .188/.220/.313 for the season.
