Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Mets are telling teams they're "open for business now."

The Mets are sitting 12 games behind the Nationals in the National League East and are 14.5 games out of a Wild Card Spot, so it appears they're realistic about their chances of making the postseason. Olney lists Curtis Granderson, Addison Reed, Jay Bruce and Asdurbal Cabrera among the pieces that the Mets are willing to sell off. Of that group, only Cabrera is potentially under contract for next season, as the club has an $8.25 million option on him.

Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

He's just getting a day off. Miguel Montero will do the catching.

Orioles activated RHP Darren O'Day from the 10-day disabled list.

O'Day has been out for over two weeks with a strained shoulder, but he made it through a few throwing sessions of late with no issues. He'll return to a setup role.

Marlins designated INF Christian Colon for assignment.

Colon has hit only .160/.236/.180 over 24 games this season for the Royals and Marlins and has now been removed from the 40-man roster twice. He should have a decent chance to clear waivers this time.

Marlins activated 3B Martin Prado from the 10-day disabled list.

Prado has been limited to 17 games this season due to a pair of hamstring injuries, but he's ready to go again now after playing a few rehab games. Derek Dietrich will move back into a utility role.

Nationals recalled INF Wilmer Difo from Triple-A Syracuse.

Difo has hit only .184/.245/.264 in 40 games this season at the big league level. He'll provide infield depth.

SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports that the Red Sox claimed Doug Fister off release waivers from the Angels.

Fister exercised the opt-out clause in his contract with the Angels earlier this week after posting a 4.02 ERA and 10/5 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings at Triple-A Salt Lake. Because he was claimed off release waivers, he has the opportunity to reject the claim and declare free agency. However, that would be forfeiting a spot on Boston's 40-man roster, so Fister seems likely to let the move happen. He could potentially join the Red Sox' rotation until Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) returns.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal writes that the odds of the Pirates trading Andrew McCutchen before next month's deadline are "good."

The Pirates shopped McCutchen heavily last winter and they seem likely to do so again even if they climb back into the playoff hunt. While the former MVP got off to a painfully slow start this season, he's been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the last month with a .396/.486/.736 line and eight homers across his last 26 games. The Pirates holds an affordable $14.5 million club option on McCutchen for 2018. 'Cutch will turn 31 in October.
