Brandon McCarthy permitted five runs – three earned – across five innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Reds.

A Freddie Freeman error in the second inning didn’t help, but McCarthy wasn’t sharp in this one. He notched just one strikeout and served up back-to-back home runs to Joey Votto and Scooter Gennett in the fifth. The outing was McCarthy’s worst to date, but he still has a 3.38 ERA even though he’s not missing many bats. He gets the Phillies on the road Sunday.

Scott Kingery struck out all four times he was up Tuesday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Kingery is in a 2-for-24 slump that's lowered his average to .216, and he has struck out 25 times in 82 plate appearances. The Phillies will keep looking to find starts for him, but he's not forcing them to play him right now.

Raisel Iglesias suffered his first blown save of the season in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Braves.

Iglesias wasn't sharp, but this one wasn't all on him. He walked a pair of batters, with the second one forcing in a run to bring the tying run to second base. That runner scored on what was somehow ruled an infield single on a hotshot grounder to Scooter Gennett. It's certainly frustrating for Iglesias owners to miss out on a save here, as he hasn't had many chances this season.

Scooter Gennett hit his first two home runs of the season Tuesday, with the second one being a walk-off shot in the 12th inning versus the Braves.

Gennett followed Joey Votto's blast in the fifth inning with a dinger of his own, and he followed Votto's walk in the 12th with a walk-off blast that just cleared the wall in right field. He also had an additional hit and RBI. It made up for a play in the top of the ninth inning which should've been an error on Gennett that resulted in the Braves tying the game. The walk-off hit was the first of Gennett's career.

Adrian Beltre left Tuesday night's game against the A's with an apparent injury.

Beltre hit an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning but pulled up hurt at the first base bag and immediately headed for the clubhouse. There should be more information after the game. It looked like a left hamstring or calf injury.

Joey Votto smashed his first home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Braves.

The longball came off of Brandon McCarthy in the fifth inning and was the first of back-to-back shots by him and Scooter Gennett. It was the only hit for Votto in six trips to the plate, although he did draw a walk. Votto is somehow still slugging only .293 even after the homer.

Freddie Freeman swatted a pair of solo home runs Tuesday in Cincinnati.

The first dinger led off the seventh inning and broke up Tyler Mahle's no-hit bid. Freeman then led off the ninth with a longball off of Amir Garrett. The slugging first baseman doubled his home run total for the season with his big night and is now sporting a robust .304/.440/.557 batting line.

Blake Treinen exited an appearance Tuesday against the Rangers after taking a line drive off his lower right leg.

Treinen entered the game with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, presumably to try for a five-out save. The first batter he faced, Shin-Soo Choo, hit a rocket right back to him that struck his right leg and went for an infield single. There should be an update soon from the Athletics. If it's a serious injury for Treinen, Ryan Buchter would probably make the most sense as a fill-in closer.
