Yankees prospect SS Jorge Mateo went 2-for-5 at the plate and stole his 21st base of the season on Monday for Low-A Charleston.

Mateo currently leads the minor leagues with 21 steals, and he’s been successful nearly 81% of the time. The 19-year-old shortstop played just 15 games in 2014 due to injury, but he’s off to a promising start this year with a .259/.319/.318 batting line and 18/8 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 23 games. Mateo, who is widely regarded as one of the fastest players in the minors, swiped 49 bags in 64 games back in 2013 in the Dominican Summer League, and he should contend for the minor league title if he can stay healthy.

Rockies prospect 3B Ryan McMahon went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI on Monday for High-A Modesto.

It was the third straight 2-for-4 game for McMahon, who’s batting .272/.416/.457 through 23 games for High-A Modesto. The 20-year-old third baseman has just one home run so far, but he’s already accrued 11 extra-base hits and is reaching base at a high clip thanks to a 16.8% walk rate. McMahon clubbed 18 home runs and 46 doubles last year as a teenager in his full-season debut at Low-A Asheville, so there’s no reason to worry about the early-season homer drought in the hitter-friendly California League.
May 5 - 3:26 PM

Mets prospect OF Brandon Nimmo went 3-for-5 with two doubles on Monday for Double-A Binghamton.

The three-hit performance was Nimmo’s second in as many days, and he’s batting .372 with 16 hits in his last 10 games. The 22-year-old is off to a strong start this season in his return to Binghamton, batting .304/.375/.457 with nine extra-base hits and nine walks through 23 games. Nimmo logged 65 games in the Eastern League last summer and showed a bit more power without sacrificing his patient approach. If all goes as planned, Nimmo should split 2015 between the Double- and Triple-A levels, putting him on track to debut the following year.
May 5 - 3:24 PM

Astros prospect SS Carlos Correa hit a walk-off, bases-clearing double on Monday as Double-A Corpus Christi defeated Frisco, 5-4.

He went 3-for-5 in the game with a stolen base. No prospect has been more impressive than Correa in the minor league season’s first month, as the 20-year-old is batting .383/.458/.702 with five home runs, 13 doubles, 25 RBI and 11 stolen bases through 23 games. The Astros seem intent on keeping him the minors for now because he missed a good chunk of 2014 with a broken fibula, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that Correa’s time is coming.
May 5 - 3:22 PM

Rene Rivera is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

This is probably a much needed off-day for Rivera, who is in the midst of an 0-for-17 slump. For the 2015 season, he's hitting a tough .128/.160/.192 over 78 at-bats. Bobby Wilson, currently in an 0-for-15 slump, will take his place.
May 5 - 3:22 PM

Rockies prospect OF Raimel Tapia went 3-for-4 with a double and scored two runs on Monday for High-A Modesto.

Tapia pushed his hitting streak to seven games, and he’s batting .423/.484/.962 with three home runs and three doubles in that span. The 21-year-old outfielder has opened the season on a tear in the California League, with a .340/.370/.577 batting line, 16 extra-base hits and 21 RBI in 23 games. Tapia’s bat is for real, as he’s a career .319/.376/.443 hitter in 341 minor league games, but it’ll be interesting to see how his aggressive approach translates in Double-A.
May 5 - 3:20 PM

Mets optioned INF/OF Eric Campbell to Triple-A Las Vegas.

With David Wright (hamstring) out injured, Campbell chipped in some decent playing time. In 50 at-bats, he hit .200/.323/.320 with a home run and a pair of steals. Campbell doesn't offer much of a bat, but he does have some positional flexibility. The 28-year-old will bide his time in Vegas.
May 5 - 3:17 PM

Phillies activated RHP Chad Billingsley from the 15-day disabled list.

Billingsley will get the start against the Braves on Tuesday after a long road of injury rehab. This will be his first major league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of 2013. He additionally underwent flexor tendon surgery in June of 2014. In four rehab starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Billingsley posted a 1-1 record and a 4.74 ERA. He's not a great fantasy play, though it will be interesting to see how effectively he'll pitch after the long layoff.
