Homer Bailey returned to action on Tuesday July 22.

Jul 23 - 5:02 AM

L.J. Hoes hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the twelfth inning, finishing a 1-for-5 night in style.

Hoes hit the solo shot against Fernando Abad. He is slashing just .178/.235/.308 on the season, but it's always nice to see random heroics as we enter the dog days of summer.
Jul 23 - 2:59 AM

Jose Altuve went 3-for-6 with three singles in Tuesday's extra-innings victory over the A's.

These days, it feels strange if Jose Altuve doesn't have a multi-hit game. The diminutive second-baseman is slashing .338/.374/.444 atop Houston's lineup. He also has 41 steals, though he was caught stealing in this game for just the fourth time on the year.
Jul 23 - 2:51 AM

Chris Carter went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the A's.

Carter has now blown by the Mendoza Line, as he's up to a .213 average. The two RBI brought him up to 43 on the year. Carter hasn't ever been one to hit for average, but he does have nineteen home runs and a .478 slugging percentage, which tells you that he makes his hits count. Always a hot/cold slugger, Carter's on the scorching side this month, slashing .306/.352/.735 for July.
Jul 23 - 2:45 AM

Scott Kazmir went seven innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Astros, giving up seven hits, striking out six and walking one.

Kazmir had long since hit the showers when Houston pulled out the win in the 12th, but he put in another sterling effort while he was on the mound. Chris Carter served as Kazmir's nemesis, knocking in both of the runs on Kazmir's line (one was unearned) via a third inning two-run single. While he didn't pick up his fourteenth win on Tuesday, Kazmir is still holding batters to a fantastic .210 BAA to go with a 2.32 ERA. He's allowed only 94 hits in 122 innings pitched. He'll look for a win against the Rangers next time out.
Jul 23 - 2:40 AM

Brett Oberholtzer was strong on Tuesday, giving up two runs and six hits in seven innings of work.

Oberholtzer was pitching in the place of Colin McHugh. The numbers weren't spectacular or flashy, but he got the job done. He made the A's put the ball in play, as he didn't record a walk or strikeout. While Oberholtzer didn't factor into the decision (the game went twelve innings), the effort dropped his ERA to 4.32. Should McHugh return this week, Oberholtzer will probably make his way back to the minors.
Jul 23 - 2:37 AM

Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

The blast was Schoop's eighth of the year and put him up to 26 RBI. Despite the homer, the second baseman is batting just .220/.256/.338 this season and doesn't merit serious fantasy consideration.
Jul 23 - 2:35 AM

J.J. Hardy went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's meeting with the Angels.

He now has 21 doubles on the season, to go with 30 RBI and a slash line of .284/.316/.380 His power outage through the first three months of the season has been well documented. If you're looking to buy low on an infielder, Hardy is a possible candidate, though at this point it's hard to trust him. July has been a rough month for the shortstop, as he's scuffled to the tune of .220/.281/.356.
