Michael Brantley (ankle) took batting practice Thursday and is scheduled to do some running Friday.

"Once he starts running, he knows he's going to go quick," said Indians manager Terry Francona. "So he's trying to give himself a chance to feel as good as he can before he starts ramping it up." Brantley is eligible for activation from the disabled list on Monday, and it's possible he'll be ready at that time.

Dexter Fowler (quad) is expected to be available Friday.

It doesn't sound like he's a given to start, but it appears he'll at least be available off the bench. Fowler left Wednesday's game and then sat out Thursday due to cramping in his left quad. He'll go through another round of exams Friday to determine the cause and severity of the ailment, but it looks to be a minor thing.

Tyler Lyons has stopped his running program following last November's knee surgery and as a result has dealt with stamina issues.

Lyons has fared well working mostly as a long reliever this season, most recently striking out five over three scoreless innings on Wednesday. There's been talk about him possibly supplanting Michael Wacha in the Cardinals' rotation, but it sounds like that won't happen after the lefty admitted to being fatigued following 41-, 65- and 57-pitch relief appearances his last three times out.

Steven Matz has stopped throwing his slider this season in hopes that it will help him stay healthy.

Matz didn't throw the pitch coming up through the minors, but, like many other Mets hurlers along the way, was taught the "Warthen slider" by pitching coach Dan Warthen once he reached the big leagues. It can be a nasty offering but also puts a tremendous amount of stress on the elbow, so it's probably best that the injury-prone Matz has decided to ditch it. Worth noting is that Matz's strikeouts are down this season so far in his first three starts (14 in 20 innings), although he did whiff eight over six frames against the Dodgers on Thursday.

Alex Presley underwent concussion tests after colliding with the outfield wall on Thursday.

The results of those tests aren't known, but the Tigers could make a roster move with Presley prior to Friday's game. Mikie Mahtook and Andrew Romine would be in line for more playing time if Presley is sidelined.

Julio Urias will have his ailing left shoulder examined further this weekend in Los Angeles.

An MRI last week showed no structural damage, but Urias' shoulder is still bothering him and Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times writes that "there is a heightened level of concern about the severity" of the injury. That obviously doesn't sound good, but we'll know more about Urias' condition this weekend.

Twins released LHP Adam Wilk.

Wilk has surrendered 14 runs over 14 innings across four appearances -- two starts -- in the majors this season. He'll now seek a minor league deal elsewhere.
Jun 23 - 8:17 AM

Dodgers sent LHP Jason Wheeler outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Wheeler cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. He'll provide left-handed relief depth.
