Dodgers signed RHP Jair Jurrjens to a minor league contract.

Jurrjens is coming off a spring stint with the Netherlands team in the World Baseball Classic. The veteran right-hander last pitched in the bigs back in 2014, when he was with the Rockies. During that brief stint, he surrendered 11 runs on 20 hits in just 9 1/3 innings. He was out a professional job this past season.

Melvin Upton Jr. went 0-for-3 as the Blue Jays' leadoff hitter Wednesday against the Yankees.

Upton is 6-for-32 with two homers and a 9/1 K/BB ratio this spring, so he hasn't done anything to earn himself extra playing time in left field. The Jays will probably keep him and use him against left-handers, but that's not going to lead to much value, even in AL-only leagues.

ByungHo Park had a two-run homer and an RBI groundout to lead the Twins past the Red Sox 5-3 on Wednesday.

Park is leaving nothing to chance; he's up to six homers and an 1.159 spring OPS now. The Twins will likely officially re-add him to their 40-man roster tomorrow or Friday. Then it will just be a matter of where he hits in Monday's opener.

Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com passes along that the Cardinals are "leaning toward" starting Lance Lynn (rib) against the Cubs on April 5.

Lynn suffered a rib injury in his last Grapefruit League start. He is set to start a minor league contest on Thursday. The Cardinals are waiting to see how his injury holds up in the minor league game before they officially lock Lynn's regular-season debut into place.

Rick Porcello surrendered two runs in four innings Wednesday in his start against the Twins.

The runs came right off the bat on a single, a triple and a groundout with one out in the first. Porcello allowed just two more hits and walked none. He struck out four. He ends the spring with a 7.07 ERA, but that's still quite a bit better than the 9.77 ERA that preceded his Cy Young campaign last year.
Mar 29 - 4:04 PM

Drew Pomeranz gave up three runs over four innings in relief Wednesday against the Twins.

Pomeranz ends the spring with an 8.25 ERA, but the Red Sox didn't seem to give any real thought to sticking him in the bullpen and going with Kyle Kendrick as their fifth starter. Pomeranz's spot might come into jeopardy when David Price returns, but that depends on how he's throwing. His upside demands a roster spot in most mixed leagues, but it doesn't seem like he'll be a great play initially.

Steven Matz (elbow) won't be ready for the start of the season.

That's the way it was already trending, but now it's official. Matz has resumed throwing after being scratched from his final Grapefruit League start, but he was sent for an MRI on Wednesday as a follow-up. There could be good news in there, but either way, he won't be ready for his first turn through the rotation. The Mets have yet to make a final decision between Seth Lugo and Zack Wheeler for the fifth spot. Odds are that Lugo gets the nod.

Hanley Ramirez went 3-for-3 with a double against the Twins on Wednesday.

Ramirez still hasn't played first base because of his sore shoulder, an issue that looks larger now with Mitch Moreland dealing with the flu and iffy for Opening Day. Ramirez will be in the lineup regardless, but the Red Sox would like to have him available at first.
