Cain aggravated his left hamstring on Sunday and is expected to miss a few days. Paulo Orlando will start in center fielder.

Coghlan currently leads MLB with 145 consecutive games played, but that streak could come to an end Tuesday. Chris Denorfia will start in left field against southpaw Tyler Lyons.

Athletics optioned RHP Chris Bassitt to Triple-A Nashville.

Bassitt started in place of Sonny Gray on Sunday against the Mariners and allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings. He should get another shot down the road.

Athletics recalled OF Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Nashville.

Smolinski was recently claimed off waivers from the Rangers. The 26-year-old has struggled in the majors this season, but he has hit .427 (38-for-89) with six homers and a 1.233 OPS over 25 games at the Triple-A level.

Andrew Miller (forearm) allowed two hits in a scoreless inning Monday in his first minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Miller struck out one batter in the inning. He might only need one rehab appearance before being activated. The southpaw has been out for a month with a strained left forearm. Dellin Betances has been handling closing duties during his absence.

Jake Odorizzi (oblique) tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings Monday in his latest minor league rehab start with High-A Charlotte.

Odorizzi, who has been out for a month with an oblique strain, allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out six. I haven't had any pain for quite a while now so I was just looking to get through this healthy and make sure I got all my pitches in," said Odorizzi. He's on track to rejoin the Rays on Saturday against the Astros.
