Tim Hudson (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's his first time throwing from a mound since he was placed on the disabled list last week with a shoulder strain. When Hudson will be ready to return isn't known, and he might not have a rotation spot waiting for him when it happens.

Nori Aoki (leg) is expected to be ready for activation from the disabled list within two weeks after the All-Star break.

Aoki suffered a small fracture of his right fibula late last month. He hasn't resumed baseball activities yet, but it should be a quick turnaround once he does.

Jeff Baker exited Tuesday's game versus the Red Sox with a left oblique injury.

The Marlins are calling him day-to-day for now, but it's an ailment that usually leads to a disabled list stint. It's worth noting, though, that Baker strained his other oblique earlier this season and didn't go on the DL.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro on Tuesday indicated that Cesar Hernandez will remain the club's second baseman even after Chase Utley (ankle) returns from the disabled list.

"Not for me he's not," Amaro said when asked if Utley would still be the everyday second baseman when he returns. "Cesar Hernandez is our best second baseman." It's hard to argue with the GM given what Utley did before hitting the DL and what Hernandez has done this season, but it's still a little surprising to hear Amaro be so blunt. There remains no timetable for Utley's return.
Jul 7 - 7:41 PM

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Tuesday that pitching prospect Aaron Nola could be called up not long after the All-Star break.

There had been some speculation that Nola could be promoted to make his major league debut on Saturday, but Amaro says that won't happen. The young righty has looked ready for the majors for a while now and is most certainly a better option than what the Phillies have been throwing out there, but the club isn't ready to give him a shot just yet. Nola boasts a 1.97 ERA between Double- and Triple-A this season.
Jul 7 - 7:35 PM

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that Brandon Beachy (elbow) is a candidate to start on Saturday versus the Brewers.

Making his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, Beachy holds a 2.41 ERA over five rehab starts and went six innings and threw 92 pitches in his last outing on Monday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Mattingly said the righty touched 93 mph on the radar gun in the start, so it appears he's ready. The Dodgers have been seeking back-of-the-rotation help all season, so it would be a huge lift if Beachy can be even close to his pre-op form.
Jul 7 - 7:22 PM

Francisco Cervelli is not in the Pirates' lineup Tuesday.

He was in the original lineup but was scratched due to what was simply referred to as a manager's decision. Chris Stewart will catch in Cervelli's place.
Jul 7 - 7:10 PM

Josh Hamilton (hip) returned to the Rangers' lineup Tuesday.

Hamilton hadn't played since Friday due to what the team referred to has a groin issue but he says is more a right hip injury. His left hamstring also still isn't 100 percent yet, but Hamilton will try to gut it out for a few games before the All-Star break.
