Ricky Nolasco (elbow) is expected to return to the Twins rotation on August 15 against the Royals.

That is provided the veteran right-hander can avoid any setbacks on his minor league rehab assignment. He has been on the shelf since early July due to flexor pronator stiffness, and owned an ineffective 5.90 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 103 2/3 innings before he was shut down.

Scooter Gennett (finger) is considered day-to-day with a contusion of his left index finger.

There had been some concern in the organization that the injury was more serious, but X-rays ruled out any structural damage. Expect him to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend.
Aug 1 - 8:02 PM

Jimmy Nelson has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday due to a blister on his throwing hand.

Kyle Lohse will start in his place on Saturday, with Matt Garza sliding up a day to pitch on Sunday. Nelson is tentatively scheduled to take on the Giants on Tuesday provided the blister cooperates.

Paul Goldschmidt is not in the Diamondbacks starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Pirates.

It's just a routine day of rest for the All-Star slugger. Jordan Pacheco will draw the start at first base and bat sixth against opposing hurler Edinson Volquez.
Aug 1 - 7:05 PM

Emilio Bonifacio is making his Braves debut on Friday, playing right field and hitting eighth against the Padres.

Bonifacio is likely to be used as a super-utility type, seeing work all over the diamond while finding his way into the lineup on a fairly regular basis. His speed continues to make him a strong fantasy option.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Friday that Jim Henderson (shoulder) isn't ready to return to the bullpen.

Henderson has been on a minor league rehab assignment, but instead of rejoining the Brewers, he will remain on the disabled list and head to Arizona to continue strengthening his shoulder.
Aug 1 - 6:50 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin announced Friday that Jesse Chavez has been moved back to the bullpen.

The 30-year-old gave the A's a tremendous boost over his first 21 starts, compiling a 3.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 119/41 K/BB ratio over 125 2/3 innings. He'll function in a middle relief role for the A's while Jason Hammel maintains the final spot in the rotation.
Aug 1 - 6:42 PM

Cubs recalled INF Chris Valaika from Triple-A Iowa.

He'll take the place of Felix Doubront on the active roster, who was placed on the disabled list on Friday. The utility infielder was hitting .278/.344/.423 with 10 homers and 50 RBI over 102 games at Iowa. He'll function in a reserve role for the Cubs.
