Panthers released WR Stephen Hill.

Hill failed to stand out this preseason, hauling in just two of four targets for 18 yards in three appearances. The former second-round pick will hope to latch on elsewhere, though teams could be hesitant to sign him given his off-field struggles and history of knee injuries.

Colts signed RB Stevan Ridley.

It's an acknowledgment of how desperately little the Colts have behind 33-year-old starter Frank Gore. Ridley couldn't beat out Zach Zenner in Detroit, and was cut after taking the ball nine times for 27 yards (3.0 YPC) in two preseason games. We'd say he doesn't have good roster odds, but his "competition" is Bob Turbin, Jordan Todman and Josh Ferguson. There's a decent chance he'll crack Indy's dilapidated running back corps.

Giants TE Matt LaCosse needs right knee surgery and is out indefinitely.

Having a strong camp, LaCosse was expected to have a role as a blocker behind pass catchers Larry Donnell and Will Tye. LaCosse may now be placed on I.R.

Chiefs holdout S Eric Berry reported to the team's facility on Sunday.

Berry staged a lengthy holdout after failing to reach a long-term deal with the Chiefs this offseason but is ready to get back to playing football. It may take Berry a few days to get up to speed but he should be ready for the Chiefs' season opener in two weeks. The 27-year-old was a first-team All-Pro last season and also earned Comeback Player of the Year honors.

Bears released FB Darrel Young.

His tenure with Chicago lasted only a few weeks. If the Bears do end up keeping a fullback (they didn't last year), it will likely be Paul Lasike, who spent most of 2015 on the team's practice squad.
Aug 28 - 1:00 PM

Steelers placed OT Jerald Hawkins (shoulder) on injured reserve.

Hawkins suffered a shoulder injury early in camp and couldn't get over it. It's unclear whether he'll require surgery, but Hawkins' placement on I.R. suggests he most likely will. Hawkins was a fourth-round rookie from LSU.
Aug 28 - 12:21 PM

Dez Bryant (concussion) will participate in individual drills at Sunday's practice.

So will Tyrone Crawford. Both players are still waiting for full clearance after suffering concussions last week. Dez should be ready for the Cowboys' season opener against the Giants two weeks from today.
Aug 28 - 12:20 PM

Buccaneers waived RB Storm Johnson.

Johnson sealed his own fate with a dismal showing in Friday's preseason game against the Browns, contributing -5 rushing yards with a lost fumble on two carries. Beat writer Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times expects the Bucs to only keep three running backs on their 53-man roster. Those three would likely be Doug Martin, Charles Sims and Mike James.
